It\u2019s the first No. 1 for the seven-member group, and the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/articles\/columns\/chart-beat\/8458037\/bts-love-yourself-tear-first-k-pop-album-no-1-billboard-200\">\u00a0first K-pop album<\/a>\u00a0to lead the tally. The set, which was released through BitHit Entertainment on May 18, launches with 135,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the week ending May 24, according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, 100,000 were in traditional album sales.<\/p>\n<p>The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on\u00a0<u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/articles\/columns\/chart-beat\/6320099\/billboard-200-makeover-streams-digital-tracks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=\/articles\/columns\/chart-beat\/6320099\/billboard-200-makeover-streams-digital-tracks&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1527536946520000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGGg29qgrJZdjXzr6Li6u8DMEKq0w\">multi-metric consumption<\/a><\/u>, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new\u00a0<span tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_895649891\">June 2<\/span>-dated chart (where BTS bows at No. 1) will be posted in full on\u00a0<em>Billboard<\/em>&#8216;s websites on\u00a0<span tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_895649892\">Wednesday, May 30<\/span>\u00a0(one day later\u00a0than normal, owed to the\u00a0May 29\u00a0Memorial Day holiday in the U.S.).<\/p>\n<p><em>Love Yourself: Tear<\/em>\u2019s first-week sum is a bit bigger than expected. On May 21, some industry forecasters\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/articles\/columns\/chart-beat\/8457157\/bts-love-yourself-tear-big-debut-billboard-200-albums-chart\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=\/articles\/columns\/chart-beat\/8457157\/bts-love-yourself-tear-big-debut-billboard-200-albums-chart&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1527536946520000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGh1gVfrdJgPbsAVe8PX3oXo5g5Ig\">predicted<\/a>\u00a0the album would bow with over\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/articles\/columns\/chart-beat\/8457157\/bts-love-yourself-tear-big-debut-billboard-200-albums-chart\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=\/articles\/columns\/chart-beat\/8457157\/bts-love-yourself-tear-big-debut-billboard-200-albums-chart&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1527536946520000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGh1gVfrdJgPbsAVe8PX3oXo5g5Ig\">100,000 units<\/a>. By May 24, that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/articles\/columns\/chart-beat\/8457856\/bts-love-yourself-tear-vs-post-malones-beerbongs-bentleys-for-no\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=\/articles\/columns\/chart-beat\/8457856\/bts-love-yourself-tear-vs-post-malones-beerbongs-bentleys-for-no&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1527536946521000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHfcAGixUPoZAqQca1xzEKIGYLDyA\">forecast grew to over 120,000<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Of\u00a0<em>Love Yourself: Tear<\/em>\u2019s starting sum of 135,000 units, 100,000 were in traditional album sales, 26,000 were in SEA units (equaling 39.1 million on-demand audio streams for songs on the albums) and 9,000 TEA units.<\/p>\n<p>As mentioned earlier,\u00a0<em>Love Yourself: Tear<\/em>\u00a0is the first K-pop album to lead the Billboard 200. It\u2019s also only the second top 10 for the K-pop genre, following BTS\u2019 own\u00a0<em>Love Yourself: Her<\/em>,\u00a0which\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/articles\/columns\/k-town\/7973914\/bts-love-yourself-her-album-billboard-200-top-10\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=\/articles\/columns\/k-town\/7973914\/bts-love-yourself-her-album-billboard-200-top-10&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1527536946521000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGE3uYM-az-IsVHcik0drWCnqucBw\">debuted and peaked at No. 7<\/a>\u00a0on the Oct. 7, 2017-dated list.<\/p>\n<p><em>Love Yourself: Tear<\/em>\u00a0also logs the biggest week yet for K-pop (both in overall units and traditional album sales). The previous high-water mark was earned by\u00a0BTS&#8217;\u00a0<em>Love Yourself: Her<\/em>\u00a0(31,000 units in its opening frame, 18,000 in traditional album sales).<\/p>\n<p>Notably, as\u00a0<em>Love Yourself: Tear<\/em>\u00a0is performed mostly in the Korean language, it\u2019s the first primarily foreign-language No. 1 album\u00a0in over 12 years. In\u00a02006,\u00a0classical\u00a0crossover vocal quartet Il Divo topped the list with\u00a0<em>Ancora<\/em>\u00a0(on the chart dated Feb. 11, 2006), which\u00a0blends\u00a0songs performed in Spanish, Italian and French, along with a track sung partially in English.<\/p>\n<p>Back on the new Billboard 200 chart, Post Malone\u2019s former No. 1,\u00a0<em>beerbongs &amp; bentleys,\u00a0<\/em>drops to No. 2 (123,000 units; down 17 percent) after three consecutive weeks atop the list. The album was the first by an artist to notch three weeks in a row at No. 1 since December, when Taylor Swift&#8217;s\u00a0<em>reputation<\/em>\u00a0linked together three frames (of its total four at No. 1).<\/p>\n<p>Rapper Lil Baby bounces in at No. 3 with his debut studio album, and first top 10,\u00a0<em>Harder Than Ever<\/em>. The set earned 71,000 units, powered largely by streams (65,000 SEA units), thanks in part to the popularity of the set\u2019s track \u201cYes Indeed,\u201d with Drake. The track debuted at No. 30 on the Streaming Songs chart dated May 26, and is expected to make a huge leap up the newest tally (dated\u00a0<span tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_895649895\">June 2<\/span>).\u00a0<em>Harder Than Ever<\/em>\u00a0also features guest turns from Young Thug, Moneybagg Yo, Lil Uzi Vert and Offset.<\/p>\n<p>Lil Baby previously hit the Billboard 200 with the mixtape\u00a0<em>Too Hard<\/em>, which peaked at No. 80 on Dec. 23, 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Rock band Five Finger Death Punch notches its sixth top 10 album, as\u00a0<em>And Justice for None\u00a0<\/em>debuts at No. 4 with 71,000 units (60,000 in traditional album sales). The band previously hit the region with\u00a0<em>Got Your Six<\/em>\u00a0(No. 2, 2015),\u00a0<em>The Wrong Side of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell: Volume 2\u00a0<\/em>(No. 2, 2013),\u00a0<em>The Wrong Side of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell: Volume 1<\/em>\u00a0(No. 2, 2013),\u00a0<em>American Capitalist<\/em>\u00a0(No. 3, 2011) and\u00a0<em>War Is the Answer<\/em>\u00a0(No. 7, 2009). The group\u2019s only studio album to miss the top 10 was\u00a0its debut effort,\u00a0<em>The Way of the Fist<\/em>, which topped out at No. 107 in 2008.<\/p>\n<p>Cardi B\u2019s\u00a0<em>Invasion of Privacy<\/em>\u00a0climbs 7-5 on the new Billboard 200 with 48,000 units (down 9 percent),\u00a0<em>The Greatest Showman\u00a0<\/em>soundtrack moves 5-6 with 44,000 units (down 17 percent) and J. Cole\u2019s\u00a0<em>KOD<\/em>\u00a0dips 6-7 with 41,000 units (down 22 percent).<\/p>\n<p>Rapper NAV rounds out the debuts in the top 10, as his first studio album,\u00a0<em>Reckless<\/em>, starts at No. 8 with 36,000 units (32,000 in SEA units).
