The set, released on April 5 through Right Hand\/RCA Records, starts with 202,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending April 11, according to Nielsen Music &#8212; the fourth-largest week of 2019 for an album. Of that sum, 85,000 were in traditional album sales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on&nbsp;multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units. Units are comprised of traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new&nbsp;April 20-dated chart (where&nbsp;<em>Free Spirit<\/em>bows at No. 1) will be posted in full on&nbsp;<em>Billboard<\/em>&#8216;s websites on April 16.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Free Spirit<\/em>\u2019s start of 202,000 equivalent album units is the fourth-biggest week for an album in 2019, and the largest for a set by a male solo artist. The only bigger weeks logged in 2019 were the starting frames of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/music\/ariana-grande\">Ariana Grande<\/a>\u2019s\u00a0<em>Thank U, Next<\/em>(360,000),\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/music\/billie-eilish\">Billie\u00a0Eilish<\/a>\u2019s\u00a0<em>When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go<\/em>? (313,000) and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/music\/backstreet-boys\">Backstreet Boys<\/a>\u2019\u00a0<em>DNA<\/em>\u00a0(234,000).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of\u00a0<em>Free Spirit<\/em>\u2019s opening-week unit sum, 111,000 were in SEA units (translating to 146.9 million on-demand audio streams for the albums tracks), 85,000 were in album sales (boosted by a concert ticket\/album sale redemption offer with his upcoming tour) and 6,000 were in TEA units.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Concurrent with the success of Khalid\u2019s two earlier albums, he has also notched 20 entries on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart, including a trio of top 10s: as a featured artist on Logic\u2019s \u201c1-800-273-8255\u201d and with \u201cLove Lies,\u201d with&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/music\/normani\">Normani<\/a>, and \u201cEastside,\u201d with Benny Blanco and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/music\/halsey\">Halsey<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At No. 2 on the new Billboard 200, Eilish\u2019s&nbsp;<em>When We All Fall Asleep<\/em>&nbsp;dips from No. 1 in its second week on the tally, earning 118,000 units (down 62%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nipsey Hussle\u2019s&nbsp;<em>Victory Lap<\/em>&nbsp;slips one rung to No. 3 with 63,000 units (down 5%),&nbsp;Grande\u2019s&nbsp;<em>Thank U, Next<\/em>&nbsp;falls 3-4 with 47,000 units (down 12%) and Juice WRLD\u2019s&nbsp;<em>Death Race for Love<\/em>&nbsp;is steady at No. 5 with 38,000 units (down 14%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/music\/sara-bareilles\">Sara Bareilles<\/a>\u2019&nbsp;<em>Amidst the Chaos<\/em>&nbsp;debuts at No. 6 on the Billboard 200, marking the singer-songwriter\u2019s sixth top 10 effort. The set launches with 35,000 equivalent album units earned (of which 29,000 were in album sales). Before that, one has to scroll back to June 17, 2017, when Bryson Tiller\u2019s&nbsp;<em>True to Self<\/em>&nbsp;opened at No. 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Free Spirit<\/em>&nbsp;follows Khalid\u2019s 2017 debut album,&nbsp;<em>American Teen<\/em>, and last year\u2019s&nbsp;<em>Suncity<\/em>. The former climbed to a peak of No. 4 back in September of 2017, while&nbsp;<em>Suncity<\/em>debuted and peaked at No. 8 in November of 2018.&nbsp;<em>American Teen<\/em>&nbsp;has yet to depart the chart after 110 consecutive weeks on the tally (it climbs 35-33 on the latest chart).
