The set, which was released on Sept. 23 through Island Records, earned 145,000 equivalent album units in the week ending Sept. 29, according to Nielsen Music. It also launches with 121,000 in traditional album sales \u2013 Mendes\u2019 best sales week yet.<\/p>\n<p><em>Illuminate<\/em> is Mendes\u2019 second full-length album, following <em>Handwritten<\/em>, which debuted at No. 1 in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/articles\/columns\/chart-beat\/6320099\/billboard-200-makeover-streams-digital-tracks\">multi-metric consumption<\/a>, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new Oct. 15-dated chart (where <em>Illuminate<\/em> bows at No. 1) will be posted in full to Billboard\u2019s websites on Tuesday, Oct. 4.<\/p>\n<p>As <em>Illuminate<\/em> arrives atop the Oct. 15-dated list, that gives Mendes two No. 1 albums at just\u00a018 years of age. More precisely, based on the new chart\u2019s date, Mendes achieves his second No. 1 at only 18 years, two months and seven days old. He was born on Aug. 8, 1998.<\/p>\n<p>Only five artists scored their first two No. 1 albums at such a young age: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/305459\/justin-bieber\/chart\"><strong>Justin Bieber<\/strong><\/a> claimed his second leader, <em>Never Say Never: The Remixes<\/em>, at 17 years and four days old in 2011. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/311278\/miley-cyrus\/chart\"><strong>Miley Cyrus<\/strong><\/a> was just 14 years, seven months and 21 days old when <em>Hannah Montana 2\/Meet Miley Cyrus <\/em>debuted at No. 1 in 2007. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/303514\/hilary-duff\/chart\"><strong>Hilary Duff<\/strong><\/a>was 17 years, 11 months and six days old when <em>Most Wanted<\/em> launched at No. 1 in 2005. And, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/306757\/leann-rimes\/chart\"><strong>LeAnn Rimes<\/strong><\/a> was a sprightly 15 years and 30 days old when <em>You Light Up My Life \u2013 Inspirational Songs<\/em> hit No. 1 in 1997.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, Mendes is the first artist to have their first two full-length studio albums hit No. 1 since nearly a year ago, when <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/5778308\/5-seconds-of-summer\/chart\"><strong>5 Seconds of Summer<\/strong><\/a> bowed at No. 1 with <em>Sounds Good Feels Good<\/em>. (It followed the band\u2019s self-titled debut the previous year.)<\/p>\n<p>Mendes is the first male artist to claim the distinction since 2015, when <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/275210\/aap-rocky\/chart\"><strong>A$AP Rocky<\/strong><\/a> bowed atop the list with <em>At.Long.Last.A$AP<\/em>, following 2013\u2019s <em>Long.Live.A$AP<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/301284\/drake\/chart\"><strong>Drake\u2019s<\/strong><\/a> <em>Views<\/em> slips from No. 1 to No. 2 on the new Billboard 200 with 50,000 units (down 5 percent) and the <em>Suicide Squad<\/em> soundtrack holds at No. 3 with 42,000 units (down 9 percent).<\/p>\n<p>The second debut in the new top 10 is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/308556\/luke-bryan\/chart\"><strong>Luke Bryan\u2019s<\/strong><\/a> <em>Farm Tour\u2026 Here\u2019s to the Farmer<\/em> EP, which bows at No. 4 with 34,000 units (32,000 in traditional album sales). The digital-exclusive set marks Bryan\u2019s ninth top 10 album, and eighth top 10 in a row.<\/p>\n<p>All eight of Bryan\u2019s charting albums from 2011\u2019s <em>Tailgates &amp; Tanlines<\/em> to 2016\u2019s <em>Here\u2019s to the Farmer<\/em> have debuted in the top 10. He charted one additional top 10, 2009\u2019s<em>Doin\u2019 My Thing<\/em> (which peaked at No. 6).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/298448\/bruce-springsteen\/chart\"><strong>Bruce Springsteen\u2019s<\/strong><\/a> new <em>Chapter and Verse<\/em>\u00a0is the third and final debut in the new top 10, as it launches at No. 5 with 29,000 units (27,000 in traditional album sales). It is Springsteen\u2019s 19<sup>th<\/sup> top 10 album. The compilation effort is a companion piece to Springsteen\u2019s new memoir, <em>Born to Run<\/em>. The 18-track album features five previously unreleased songs, along with familiar hits like \u201cThe River,\u201d \u201cBorn to Run\u201d and \u201cBorn in the U.S.A.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/1561929\/travi-scott\/chart\"><strong>Travis Scott\u2019s<\/strong><\/a> former No. 1, <em>Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight<\/em> rises one rung to No. 6 with 27,000 units (down 15 percent), while <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/430557\/twenty-one-pilots\/chart\">Twenty One Pilots<\/a>\u2019<\/strong> <em>Blurryface<\/em> is also up one position to No. 7 with 26,000 units (down 6 percent). <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/304236\/jason-aldean\/chart\"><strong>Jason Aldean\u2019s<\/strong><\/a> <em>They Don\u2019t Know<\/em> falls two spots to No. 8 with 24,000 units (down 36 percent), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/365068\/rihanna\/chart\"><strong>Rihanna\u2019s<\/strong><\/a> <em>Anti<\/em>jumps 12-9 with 23,000 units (down 4 percent) and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/1484343\/ariana-grande\/chart\"><strong>Ariana Grande\u2019s<\/strong><\/a> <em>Dangerous Woman <\/em>ascends a slot to No. 10 with almost 23,000 units (down 7 percent).<\/p>\n<div id=\"themify_builder_content-238\" data-postid=\"238\" class=\"themify_builder_content themify_builder_content-238 themify_builder themify_builder_front\">\r\n\r\n\t<\/div>\r\n<!-- \/themify_builder_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pop singer\/songwriter Shawn Mendesnotches his second No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart with the arrival ofIlluminate.
