The set, which was released on Nov. 11 through Epic Records, earned 135,000 equivalent album units in the week ending Nov. 17, according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, 112,000 were in traditional album sales.<\/p>\n<p>The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/articles\/columns\/chart-beat\/6320099\/billboard-200-makeover-streams-digital-tracks\">multi-metric consumption<\/a>, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new Dec. 3-dated chart (where A Tribe Called Quest starts at No. 1) will be posted in full to Billboard\u2019s websites on Tuesday, Nov. 22.<\/p>\n<p><em>We Got It From Here<\/em> is A Tribe Called Quest\u2019s second No. 1, following <em>Beats, Rhymes and Life<\/em>, which topped the list for one week on the chart dated Aug. 17, 1996 \u2014\u00a020 years and three months ago. That gap between No. 1s is the longest for a hip-hop act in the chart\u2019s history. Previously, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/6126800\/jeezy\/chart\">Jeezy<\/a> \u2014just two weeks ago \u2014 held the longest wait between No. 1s among hip-hop acts, with eight years and two months between <em>The Recession<\/em> in September of 2008 and <em>Trap or Die 3<\/em> this month.<\/p>\n<div class=\"embedded-content embedded-content--readmore is-embed-initialized\" data-nid=\"7573583\" data-nodetype=\"article\" data-template=\"readmore\"><\/div>\n<p>The last act \u2014\u00a0among all genres of music \u2014\u00a0to wait longer between No. 1s was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/307447\/lionel-richie\/chart\">Lionel Richie<\/a> in 2012. That year, he\u00a0reached No. 1 with <em>Tuskegee<\/em>, 25 years and six months after he last topped the chart with 1986\u2019s <em>Dancing on the Ceiling<\/em>. (The longest wait overall between No. 1s \u2014\u00a0among living acts \u2014\u00a0belongs to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/293235\/bob-dylan\/chart\">Bob Dylan<\/a>, who went 30 years and six months between <em>Desire<\/em> in 1976 and <em>Modern Times<\/em> in 2006. The longest wait among all acts, living or dead, is owned by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/364668\/ray-charles\/chart\">Ray Charles<\/a>. There was a 42-year and four-month gap between <em>Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music<\/em> in 1962 and <em>Genius Loves Company<\/em> in 2005.)<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s worth noting that the first rap\/hip-hop album to lead the Billboard 200 was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/280828\/beastie-boys\/chart\">Beastie Boys<\/a>\u2019 <em>Licensed to Ill<\/em>, which reached No. 1 almost 30 years ago, on March 7, 1987. Beastie Boys\u00a0also clocked the 10th No. 1 rap album, <em>Ill Communication<\/em>, in 1994. A Tribe Called Quest\u2019s previous No. 1, <em>Beats, Rhymes and Life<\/em>, was the 20<sup>th<\/sup>hip-hop album to top the Billboard 200.<\/p>\n<p><em>We Got It From Here<\/em> is billed as A Tribe Called Quest\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/articles\/columns\/hip-hop\/7564721\/a-tribe-called-quest-album-elton-john-kendrick-lamar-andre-3000-busta-rhymes-jack-white\">final album<\/a>.
