It was originally released on Carey\u2019s album&nbsp;<em>Merry Christmas<\/em>&nbsp;in November 1994 and, as&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/luminatedata.com\/reports\/midyear-music-industry-report-2024\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">streaming has grown<\/a>&nbsp;and holiday music has become more&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/business\/business-news\/christmas-songs-breaking-through-music-market-1235009608\/\">prominent<\/a>&nbsp;on streaming services\u2019 playlists, it hit the Hot 100\u2019s top 10 for the first time in December 2017, and the top five for the first time in the 2018 holiday season. It led at last, prior to this week, over the holidays&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/articles\/business\/chart-beat\/8546418\/mariah-carey-all-i-want-for-christmas-is-you-number-one\">in 2019<\/a>&nbsp;(for three weeks), 2020 (two), 2021 (three), 2022 (four) and 2023 (two).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen I wrote [it], I had absolutely no idea the impact the song would eventually have worldwide,\u201d&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/music\/chart-beat\/mariah-carey-charlie-brown-greatest-of-all-time-holiday-charts-1234999010\/\">Carey marveled<\/a>&nbsp;in 2021. \u201cI\u2019m so full of gratitude that so many people enjoy it with me every year.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/yXQViqx6GMY?si=iOzo15gmcQBze437\" title=\"YouTube video player\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAll I Want for Christmas Is You\u201d became Carey\u2019s 19th Hot 100 No. 1, the most among soloists and one away from The Beatles\u2019 overall record 20. It also made Carey the first artist to have ranked at No. 1 on the chart in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/articles\/business\/chart-beat\/8547157\/mariah-carey-number-one-hot-100-four-decades-all-i-want-for-christmas-is-you\">four distinct decades<\/a>\u00a0(1990s, 2000s, \u201810s and \u201820s).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Holiday cheer infuses half the Hot 100\u2019s top 10, including the entire top three. Below Carey,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/brenda-lee\/\">Brenda Lee<\/a>&nbsp;bounds 15-2 with \u201cRockin\u2019 Around the Christmas Tree,\u201d which spent three weeks at No. 1 last holiday season,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/lists\/brenda-lee-rockin-around-the-christmas-tree-number-one-hot-100\/\">reaching the summit<\/a>&nbsp;at last 65 years after its release. Plus,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/wham-3\/\">Wham!<\/a>\u2019s \u201cLast Christmas\u201d leaps 18-3, as the 1984 single hits a new Hot 100 high.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two other classics return to the Hot 100\u2019s top 10:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/bobby-helms\/\">Bobby Helms<\/a>\u2019 \u201cJingle Bell Rock\u201d (19-5) and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/burl-ives\/\">Burl Ives<\/a>\u2019 \u201cA Holly Jolly Christmas\u201d (33-10).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Hot 100 blends all-genre U.S. streaming (official audio and official video), radio airplay and sales data, the lattermost metric reflecting purchases of physical singles and digital tracks from full-service digital music retailers; digital singles sales from direct-to-consumer (D2C) sites are excluded from chart calculations.
