It arrived on Carey\u2019s album&nbsp;<em>Merry Christmas<\/em>&nbsp;in November 1994 and, as&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/luminatedata.com\/reports\/midyear-music-industry-report-2024\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">streaming has grown<\/a>&nbsp;and holiday music has become more&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/business\/business-news\/christmas-songs-breaking-through-music-market-1235009608\/\">prominent<\/a>&nbsp;on streaming services\u2019 playlists, it hit the top 10 for the first time in December 2017 and the top five for the first time in the 2018 holiday season. It led at last, prior to the past two weeks, over the holidays&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/articles\/business\/chart-beat\/8546418\/mariah-carey-all-i-want-for-christmas-is-you-number-one\">in 2019<\/a>&nbsp;(for three weeks), 2020 (two), 2021 (three), 2022 (four), 2023 (two) and 2024 (four). (Older holiday songs are&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/billboard.substack.com\/p\/older-hits-will-now-drop-off-the\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">eligible<\/a>&nbsp;to appear on the chart each season.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAll I Want for Christmas Is You\u201d became Carey\u2019s 19th Hot 100 No. 1, the most among soloists and one away from the Beatles\u2019 overall record 20. It also made Carey the first artist to have ranked at No. 1 on the chart in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/articles\/business\/chart-beat\/8547157\/mariah-carey-number-one-hot-100-four-decades-all-i-want-for-christmas-is-you\">four distinct decades<\/a>&nbsp;(1990s, 2000s, \u201810s and \u201820s).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, holiday hits glisten in eight of the Hot 100\u2019s top 10 spots, including the entire top five.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Hot 100 blends all-genre U.S. streaming (official audio and official video), radio airplay and sales data, the lattermost metric reflecting purchases of physical singles and digital tracks from full-service digital music retailers; digital singles sales from direct-to-consumer (D2C) sites are excluded from chart calculations.
