Of that sum, 193,000 were in traditional album sales.<\/p>\n<p>The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/articles\/columns\/chart-beat\/6320099\/billboard-200-makeover-streams-digital-tracks\">multi-metric consumption<\/a>, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new June 3, 2017-dated chart (where Styles enters at No. 1) will be posted in full to <em>Billboard<\/em>\u2019s websites on Tuesday, May 23.<\/p>\n<p>With Styles\u2019 start of 193,000 he earns the biggest debut sales week for a U.K. male artist\u2019s first full-length album since Nielsen Music began tracking sales in 1991. He surpasses the previous record holder, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/5811918\/sam-smith\/chart\">Sam Smith<\/a>, who saw his <em>In the Lonely Hour<\/em>album launch with 166,000 copies sold at No. 2 back in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, Styles is just the second U.K. male artist to bow at No. 1 with a debut album in the 61-year history of the Billboard 200. He follows his former <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/314021\/one-direction\/chart\">One Direction<\/a> bandmate, Zayn, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/articles\/columns\/chart-beat\/7318826\/zayn-malik-debuts-at-no-1-on-billboard-200-albums-chart-with-mind-of-mine-pillowtalk\">who entered at No. 1<\/a> with <em>Mind of Mine<\/em> on the chart dated April 16, 2016 (with 157,000 units and 112,000 in traditional album sales).<\/p>\n<p>With One Direction having spawned No. 1 solo albums for both Styles and Zayn, the group earns the rare distinction of having more than one member achieve a solo No. 1. The group joins a club that includes Destiny\u2019s Child, which saw both <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/281569\/beyonce\/chart\">Beyonc\u00e9<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/1521119\/letoya-luckett\/chart\">LeToya Luckett<\/a> claim No. 1s, while <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/383540\/beatles\/chart\">The Beatles<\/a> launched chart-toppers from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/302733\/george-harrison\/chart\">George Harrison<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/304965\/john-lennon\/chart\">John Lennon<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/328389\/paul-mccartney\/chart\">Paul McCartney<\/a>. (The super group <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/6976282\/blind-faith\/chart\">Blind Faith<\/a> also saw its members <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/301809\/eric-clapton\/chart\">Eric Clapton<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/280672\/steve-winwood\/chart\">Steve Winwood<\/a> earn solo No. 1s, years after the release of the group\u2019s only album, in 1969. Clapton first led the list in 1974, and Winwood in 1988.)<\/p>\n<p>At No. 2 on the new Billboard 200, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/431745\/zac-brown-band\/chart\">Zac Brown Band<\/a> debuts with its latest effort, <em>Welcome Home<\/em>. It enters with 146,000 units, of which 139,000 were in traditional album sales. The group\u2019s last studio effort, 2015\u2019s <em>Jekyll + Hyde<\/em>, bowed at No. 1 with 228,000 units and 214,000 copies sold. In total, Zac Brown Band has achieved five top 10 albums: <em>Welcome Home<\/em>, <em>Jekyll + Hyde<\/em>, <em>Uncaged<\/em> (No. 1 in 2012), <em>You Get What You Give<\/em> (No. 1 in 2010) and <em>The Foundation<\/em> (No. 9, 2010).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/305702\/kendrick-lamar\/chart\">Kendrick Lamar<\/a>\u2019s former No. 1 <em>DAMN.<\/em> stays steady at No. 3 with 117,000 units (down 13 percent), while <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/1487121\/chris-stapleton\/chart\">Chris Stapleton<\/a>\u2019s <em>From A Room: Volume 1<\/em> dips from No. 2 to No. 4 in its second week with 75,000 units (down 66 percent). The <em>Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2: Awesome Mix Vol. 2<\/em> soundtrack falls one slot to No. 5 with 69,000 units (down 21 percent).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/325117\/paramore\/chart\">Paramore<\/a> scores its third top 10 album, as its new studio effort <em>After Laughter<\/em> starts at No. 6 with 67,000 units (53,000 in traditional album sales). It\u2019s the act\u2019s first studio release since its 2013 self-titled set, which bowed at No. 1 with 106,000 copies sold in its first week. The band previously logged a top 10 with its 2009 album <em>Brand New Eyes<\/em> (debuting and peaking at No. 2).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/1490118\/drake\/chart\">Drake<\/a>\u2019s <em>More Life<\/em> descends 5-7 with 58,000 units (down 7 percent) in its ninth week on the chart. The former chart-topper spent three weeks leading the list.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/1490226\/machine-gun-kelly\/chart\">Machine Gun Kelly<\/a> nets his third top 10 effort, as <em>Bloom<\/em> bows at No. 8 with 57,000 units (and 38,000 in traditional album sales).
