Of that sum, 68,000 were in traditional album sales.<\/p>\n<p>The six-song album appeared with little warning,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/articles\/columns\/hip-hop\/8263214\/the-weeknd-new-album-instagram\">following a cryptic Instagram post<\/a>on March 27, which led to a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/articles\/columns\/hip-hop\/8273214\/the-weeknd-my-dear-melancholy-tonight\">confirmation of an album<\/a>\u00a0two days later.\u00a0<em>My Dear Melancholy<\/em>\u00a0follows The Weeknd\u2019s two previous No. 1s: 2016\u2019s\u00a0<em>Starboy<\/em>\u00a0and 2015\u2019s\u00a0<em>Beauty Behind the Madness<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/articles\/columns\/chart-beat\/6320099\/billboard-200-makeover-streams-digital-tracks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">multi-metric consumption<\/a>, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new\u00a0April 14-dated chart (where The Weeknd debuts at No. 1) will be posted in full on Billboard&#8217;s websites on\u00a0Tuesday, April 10.<\/p>\n<p>Notably,\u00a0<em>My Dear Melancholy<\/em>\u00a0logs the largest week for an R&amp;B album &#8212;\u00a0by equivalent album units &#8212;\u00a0in over a year. The last R&amp;B set to post a bigger frame was\u00a0<em>Starboy<\/em>, on the list dated Dec. 17, 2016, when it tallied 209,000 units in its debut week.<\/p>\n<p>Further,\u00a0<em>My Dear Melancholy<\/em>\u00a0notches the highest\u00a0<em>sales<\/em>\u00a0week for an R&amp;B album in nearly a year. The last R&amp;B set to sell more was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/music\/mary-j-blige\">Mary J. Blige<\/a>\u2019s\u00a0<em>Strength of a Woman<\/em>, which started with 72,000 copies sold on the chart dated May 20, 2017.<\/p>\n<p><em>My Dear Melancholy<\/em>\u00a0is currently only available to purchase as a digital download, as its CD counterpart is slated for an April 13 release. (Most surprise albums don\u2019t see their CD editions arrive until a couple weeks after their initial digital release\u00a0due to the amount of time it takes to manufacture product.)<\/p>\n<p>Though\u00a0<em>My Dear Melancholy<\/em>\u2019s sales were solid, the album\u2019s debut saw more than half of its units driven by streams. The title bows with 94,000 SEA units, which equates to 140.8 million on-demand audio streams of the set\u2019s songs (each SEA unit\u00a0is equal to 1,500 streams).\u00a0<em>My Dear Melancholy<\/em>\u2019s streaming start of 94,000 SEA units is the third-biggest streaming week for an album in 2018, following the debut frames of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/music\/migos\">Migos<\/a>\u2019\u00a0<em>Culture II<\/em>\u00a0(150,000 SEA units) and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/music\/xxxtentacion\">XXXTentacion<\/a>\u2019s\u00a0<em>?<\/em>\u00a0(106,000 SEA units).\u00a0<em>My Dear Melancholy<\/em>\u2019s streaming sum is even more impressive, considering it was achieved with only\u00a0<em>six<\/em>\u00a0songs. Comparably,\u00a0<em>Culture II<\/em>\u00a0had 24 tracks assisting its big streaming start, while\u00a0<em>?<\/em>\u00a0had 18.<\/p>\n<p>The biggest song on\u00a0<em>My Dear Melancholy<\/em>\u00a0appears to be its lead-off track, \u201cCall Out My Name.\u201d The tune is likely\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/articles\/columns\/chart-beat\/8293034\/the-weeknd-call-out-my-name-top-10-hot-100\">headed for a top 10 debut<\/a>\u00a0on the Billboard Hot 100 dated April 14.<\/p>\n<p>Finally,\u00a0<em>My Dear Melancholy<\/em>\u00a0is the shortest album &#8212;\u00a0by track count &#8212;\u00a0to hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in nearly eight years. In 2010, the\u00a0<em>Glee: The Music, Journey to Regionals<\/em>\u00a0soundtrack, which also had just six tracks, bowed at No. 1 on the list dated June 26. For the last six-track (or shorter) No. 1 album by an artist, one has to scroll back to the Dec. 18, 2004 chart, when\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/music\/jay-z\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">JAY-Z<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/music\/linkin-park\">Linkin Park<\/a>\u00a0teamed up for the six-track\u00a0<em>MTV Ultimate Mash-Ups Presents: Collision Course<\/em>. (The album was initially only available in a CD\/DVD edition, where the DVD included the\u00a0<em>MTV Ultimate Mash-Ups: Linkin Park vs. JAY-Z\u00a0<\/em>TV special and other video footage.) Previous to\u00a0<em>Collision Course<\/em>, the last six-track No. 1 set was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/music\/george-benson\">George Benson<\/a>\u2019s\u00a0<em>Breezin\u2019<\/em>, way back on the July 31 and Aug. 7-dated charts in 1976.<\/p>\n<p>At No. 2 on the new Billboard 200 chart, rapper Rich The Kid sees his full-length debut studio album\u00a0<em>The World Is Yours<\/em>\u00a0arrive with 59,000 units earned. Of that sum, just 6,000 were in traditional album sales. The set\u2019s SEA units were unsurprisingly large: 50,000. The album is currently enjoying a top 20 hit on the Hot 100 with \u201cPlug Walk,\u201d which is Rich The Kid\u2019s highest-charting hit.<\/p>\n<p>XXXTentacion\u2019s former No. 1,\u00a0<em>?<\/em>, dips from No. 2 to No. 3 with 57,000 units (down 25 percent).<\/p>\n<p>Singer\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/music\/kacey-musgraves\">Kacey Musgraves<\/a>\u00a0collects her third top 10 album, as her seventh\u00a0studio album\u00a0<em>Golden Hour\u00a0<\/em>bows at No. 4 with 49,000 units (with 39,000 of that sum powered by traditional album sales). Musgraves previously visited the top 10 with\u00a0<em>Pageant Material<\/em>\u00a0(No. 3 in 2015) and\u00a0<em>Same Trailer Different Park\u00a0<\/em>(No. 2, 2013).<\/p>\n<p><em>Golden Hour<\/em>\u00a0is the highest charting country album since Luke Bryan\u2019s\u00a0<em>What Makes You Country<\/em>\u00a0launched at No. 1 on the Dec. 30, 2017-dated list.<\/p>\n<p>The soundtrack to\u00a0<em>The Greatest Showman<\/em>\u00a0slips one spot to No. 5 with 46,000 units (down 3 percent).<\/p>\n<p>As for the rest of the top 10:\u00a0<em>Black Panther: The Album<\/em>\u00a0falls 3-6 with 43,000 units (down 9 percent), Migos\u2019\u00a0<em>Culture II<\/em>\u00a0drops 5-7 with 41,000 units (down 8 percent), Post Malone\u2019s\u00a0<em>Stoney<\/em>\u00a0descends 7-8 with 29,000 units (down 3 percent),\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/music\/ed-sheeran\">Ed Sheeran<\/a>\u2019s\u00a0<em>\u00f7<\/em>\u00a0(<em>Divide<\/em>) moves 8-9 with 28,000 units (down 4 percent) and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/music\/logic\">Logic<\/a>\u2019s\u00a0<em>Bobby Tarantino II<\/em>\u00a0slides 6-10 with 27,000 units (down 20 percent).<\/p>\n<p>Source: billboard.com<\/p>\n<div id=\"themify_builder_content-970\" data-postid=\"970\" class=\"themify_builder_content themify_builder_content-970 themify_builder themify_builder_front\">\r\n\r\n\t<\/div>\r\n<!-- \/themify_builder_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Plus: Top 10 debuts from Rich The Kid and Kacey Musgraves.
