Of that sum, 128,000 were in traditional album sales \u2014 the best sales debut for a soundtrack in a year-and-a-half.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/articles\/news\/magazine-feature\/7469407\/kevin-weaver-suicide-squad-soundtrack\"><strong>Atlantic Records&#8217; Kevin Weaver on Creating the Soundtrack for &#8216;Suicide Squad&#8217;: &#8216;We Were All in the Trenches Together&#8217;<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/articles\/columns\/chart-beat\/6320099\/billboard-200-makeover-streams-digital-tracks\">multi-metric consumption<\/a>, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new Aug. 27-dated chart (where <em>Suicide Squad<\/em> is No. 1) will be posted in full to Billboard\u2019s websites on Tuesday, Aug. 16.<\/p>\n<div class=\"teads-inread sm-screen\"><\/div>\n<p>The <em>Suicide Squad<\/em> soundtrack was released on Aug. 5 (the same day as its parent film\u2019s theatrical bow) through WaterTower Music\/Atlantic Records. The album is the first No. 1 soundtrack in a year on the Billboard 200. A soundtrack last crowned the list on the Aug. 22, 2015-dated chart, when Disney Channel\u2019s <em>Descendants<\/em> opened at No. 1. The last theatrical film soundtrack before <em>Suicide Squad<\/em> to top the list was<em>Pitch Perfect 2<\/em>, on the May 30, 2015 chart.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Suicide Squad<\/em> album \u2014\u00a0which features new recordings by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/430557\/twenty-one-pilots\/chart\">Twenty One Pilots<\/a>,<a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/279545\/skrillex\/chart\">Skrillex<\/a> &amp; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/365033\/rick-ross\/chart\">Rick Ross<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/277193\/panic-disco\/chart\">Panic! at the Disco<\/a> and more \u2014 is also the top-selling album of the week, and bows at No. 1 on the Top Album Sales chart. Its start of 128,000 copies sold is the best sales frame for any album in a month, since <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/298592\/blink-182\/chart\">Blink-182<\/a>\u2019s<em>California<\/em> launched with 172,000 sold (on the July 23-dated list).<\/p>\n<p>Further, <em>Suicide Squad<\/em> posts the biggest debut sales week for a soundtrack in 18 months, since the <em>Fifty Shades of Grey<\/em> album launched at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 with 210,000 sold (Feb. 28, 2015).<\/p>\n<p>Of <em>Suicide Squad<\/em>\u2019s total unit figure for the week \u2014\u00a0182,000 \u2014\u00a0traditional album sales represent 70.5 percent. The rest of the sum is comprised of TEA (17.6 percent) and SEA (11.9 percent).<\/p>\n<p>The album\u2019s streaming equivalent album unit total for the week on the Billboard 200 was nearly 22,000 units, which equates to 32.6 million streams for the album\u2019s tracks. That\u2019s the largest streaming week for a soundtrack album, ever, on the chart. It handily beats the 10,000 SEA units (14.4 million streams) logged by the <em>Fifty Shades of Grey<\/em> soundtrack in its second chart week (March 7, 2015).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/articles\/columns\/rock\/7469528\/suicide-squad-soundtrack-favorite-song-poll-twenty-one-pilots\"><strong>What Is Your Favorite Song From the &#8216;Suicide Squad&#8217; Soundtrack? Vote!<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Below <em>Suicide Squad<\/em> on the new Billboard 200, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/301284\/drake\/chart\">Drake<\/a>\u2019s <em>Views<\/em> holds at No. 2 with 73,000 units (down 9 percent).<\/p>\n<p>Rock band <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/279527\/skillet\/chart\">Skillet<\/a> starts at No. 3 with <em>Unleashed<\/em> (62,000 units; 58,000 in pure album sales) \u2014 scoring the group its third top 10 album. The act has previously visited the top 10 with two more top five-charting sets: <em>Rise<\/em> in 2013 (No. 4) and <em>Awake<\/em> in 2009 (No. 2).<\/p>\n<p>The new set also enters at No. 1 on the Top Christian Albums chart, giving Skillet its third chart-topper on that tally, following <em>Rise<\/em> and <em>Awake<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Back on the Billboard 200, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/289793\/blake-shelton\/chart\">Blake Shelton<\/a>\u2019s <em>If I\u2019m Honest<\/em> continues to climb thanks to a 99-cent sale tag in the Google Play music store, as the album vaults 9-4. It earned 49,000 units (up 72 percent) and 44,000 in album sales (up 93 percent).<\/p>\n<p>The new <em>Now 59<\/em> compilation debuts at No. 5 with 48,000 units \u2014 all from traditional album sales. The set continues the Now That\u2019s What I Call Music brand\u2019s hot streak in the top 10, as every one of the numbered <em>Now<\/em> albums in the main series have reached the top 10, from the very first <em>Now<\/em> album in 1998 up through<em>Now 59<\/em>. The series has also clocked top 10s with some of its genre-specific titles, like <em>Now That\u2019s What I Call Christmas<\/em>, <em>Now That\u2019s What I Call Country<\/em> and <em>Now #1s<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Twenty One Pilots\u2019 <em>Blurryface<\/em> slips 3-6 with 46,000 units (though it\u2019s up 19 percent). Like Shelton\u2019s album, <em>Blurryface<\/em> gains thanks to a 99-cent promotion in the Google Play store. <em>Blurryface<\/em>\u2019s sales were up 53 percent for the week, rising to 25,000 copies sold.<\/p>\n<p>Last week\u2019s No. 1, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/299939\/dj-khaled\/chart\">DJ Khaled<\/a>\u2019s <em>Major Key<\/em>, drops to No. 7 in its second week, with 43,000 units (down 54 percent).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/1488413\/dj-snake\/chart\">DJ Snake<\/a> starts at No. 8 with with his debut album, <em>Encore<\/em>, earning 32,000 units (8,000 in pure album sales).
