‘Despacito’ Leads Hot 100 for 10th Week, Ed Sheeran Ties Record & Shawn Mendes Hits Top 10

Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee‘s “Despacito,” featuring Justin Bieber, leads the Billboard Hot 100 chart (dated July 29) for a landmark 10th week. Plus, Ed Sheeran‘s “Shape of You” ties the record for the most weeks logged in the top five and Shawn Mendes adds his third top 10, “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back.”

As we do each Monday, let’s run down the top 10 of the Hot 100, which blends all-genre streaming, airplay and sales data. All charts will update on Billboard.com tomorrow (July 18), as they do every Tuesday.

“Despacito” (released on Universal Music Latino / Raymond Braun / SchoolBoy / Def Jam / UMLE / Republic Records) becomes just the 35th single to top the Hot 100 for at least 10 weeks, dating to the chart’s Aug. 4, 1958, inception; only 3 percent of the Hot 100’s 1,065 total No. 1s have reached double-digit weeks at the summit.

(Note that it’s been more common for songs to lead for at least 10 weeks since the Hot 100 adopted Nielsen Music data in late 1991; while before then, only 3 percent of all No. 1s led for that long, since then a loftier 11 percent of all No. 1s have done so, with 33 of the all-time 35 No. 1s to notch at least 10 weeks on top having reigned since 1992.)

“Despacito” is the longest-leading Hot 100 No. 1 since Sheeran’s “Shape,” which ruled for 12 weeks in January through April. The record? Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men’s “One Sweet Day” led for 16 weeks, in 1995-96.

“Despacito” dominates the Digital Song Sales chart for an 11th week, with 124,000 downloads sold (down 3 percent) in the week ending July 13, according to Nielsen Music; the remix with Bieber accounts for 77 percent of the song’s sales (just off its 78 percent share a week ago and in line with its breakdown in recent weeks). On the Streaming Songs chart, “Despacito” leads for a 10th week, with 60.3 million U.S. streams (down 2 percent) in the week ending July 13.

“Despacito” again tops all three of the Hot 100’s main component charts, as it also leads the all-format Radio Songs chart for a second week with 145 million in all-format airplay audience (down 3 percent) in the week ending July 16. A week ago, the collab made history as the first predominantly Spanish-language song (or any song not sung primarily in English) to top Radio Songs, dating to the chart’s 1990 origin.

“Despacito” commands the Hot Latin Songs chart for a 24th week and the Songs of the Summer ranking for a sixth week, having led the latter list each week since it made its annual return just after Memorial Day.

DJ Khaled‘s “Wild Thoughts,” featuring Rihanna and Bryson Tiller, rebounds from No. 4 to a new high of No. 2 on the Hot 100. It keeps at No. 2 on Streaming Songs (37.5 million, down 6 percent); drops 7-10 on Digital Song Sales (42,000, down 13 percent); and bounds 14-8 on Radio Songs (96 million, up 23 percent), boasting the Hot 100’s top airplay gain for a third week. Most notably, Rihanna earns her record-extending 29th Radio Songs top 10, bolstering her lead over Carey (23).

“Thoughts” additionally crowns the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart (3-1), where it’s Rihanna’s seventh No. 1, Khaled ‘s third and Tiller’s first. On Hot R&B Songs, “Thoughts” tallies a second nonconsecutive week on top (2-1).

More Khaled: “I’m the One,” featuring Bieber, Quavo, Chance the Rapper and Lil Wayne, slips 2-3 on the Hot 100; it debuted atop the May 20-dated chart. It leads Hot Rap Songs for an 11th week.

Bruno Mars‘ “That’s What I Like” dips 3-4 on the Hot 100; the song topped the May 13-dated chart.

Rounding out the Hot 100’s top five, Sheeran’s former 12-week No. 1 “Shape of You” remains at No. 5, while equaling the record for the most weeks spent in the top five: 27 (encompassing the song’s entire chart life, dating to its entrance at No. 1 on Jan. 28).

Here is a look at the singles to spend the most time in the Hot 100’s top five all-time:

Weeks in Hot 100’s Top Five, Title, Artist, Peak Pos., Peak Date

27 weeks, “Shape of You,” Ed Sheeran (No. 1, Jan. 28, 2017)
27 weeks, “Closer,” The Chainsmokers feat. Halsey (No. 1, Sept. 3, 2016)
25 weeks, “Uptown Funk!,” Mark Ronson feat. Bruno Mars (No. 1, Jan. 17, 2015)
25 weeks, “How Do I Live,” LeAnn Rimes (No. 2, Dec. 13, 1997)
23 weeks, “The Twist,” Chubby Checker (No. 1, Sept. 19, 1960)
21 weeks, “Smooth,” Santana feat. Rob Thomas (No. 1, Oct. 23, 1999)
21 weeks, “Un-Break My Heart,” Toni Braxton (No. 1, Dec. 7, 1996)

At this point in its run, airplay and streaming are driving the majority of the Hot 100 chart points for “Shape,” which ranks at No. 4 on Radio Songs (118 million, down 6 percent) and No. 11 on Streaming Songs (23.9 million, down 5 percent); it led the lists for 12 and four weeks, respectively.

Kendrick Lamar‘s “Humble.,” which crowned the May 6-dated Hot 100, holds at No. 6 and Imagine Dragons‘ “Believer” is steady at No. 7 (after hitting No. 6), while ruling Hot Rock Songs for a 19th week;  as previously reported, “Believer” becomes the group’s first No. 1 on the Adult Pop Songs airplay chart.

Shawn Mendes scores his third Hot 100 top 10, as “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back” charges 14-8. Helped by a 69-cent iTunes Store sale price, plus a new acoustic version (released July 7), “Back” lifts 3-2 on Digital Song Sales (and crowns Pop Digital Song Sales, where it rises 2-1), up 2 percent to 57,000 sold. It also bullets at No. 9 on Radio Songs (94 million, up 9 percent) and roars 40-32 on Streaming Songs (13.6 million, up 15 percent).

Mendes previously hit the Hot 100’s top 10 with “Stitches” (No. 4, 2015) and “Treat You Better” (No. 6, 2016).

French Montana‘s “Unforgettable,” featuring Swae Lee, hits a new peak on the Hot 100 (10-9), tying for French Montana’s highest-charting hit; he first reached No. 9 as featured on Chris Brown‘s “Loyal” in 2014.

Closing out the Hot 100’s top 10, Sam Hunt‘s No. 6-peaking “Body Like a Back Road” shifts into reverse (8-10). “Road” rules Hot Country Songs for a 23rd week, moving to within one week of the record: Florida Georgia Line‘s “Cruise” led for 24 weeks in 2012-13.

Beyond the Hot 100’s top 10, four songs enter the chart in the top 40: JAY-Z’s “The Story of O.J.” (No. 23) and “4:44” (No. 35), both from his album 4:44, the newly-arriving No. 1 on the Billboard 200; Kesha’s “Praying” (No. 25); and 21 Savage‘s “Bank Account” (No. 33), from Issa Album, a debut at No. 2 on the new Billboard 200.

JAY-Z Scores 14th No. 1 Album on Billboard 200 Chart With ‘4:44’

The superstar extends his own record for the most No. 1s among soloists.

JAY-Z collects his 14th No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart, as his latest release, 4:44, debuts atop the tally. According to Nielsen Music, in the week ending July 13, the set earned 262,000 equivalent album units — a larger-than-initially-expected sum, and the fourth-largest week of 2017 for any album. Of its total, 174,000 units were in traditional album sales.

4:44’s No. 1 arrival extends JAY-Z’s record as the solo artist with the most No. 1 albums in the 61-year history of the Billboard 200 chart. He distances himself farther ahead of the two acts with the second-most leaders among soloists: Bruce Springsteen and Barbra Streisand, who each have 11 chart-toppers. Among all acts, JAY-Z has the second-most leaders, behind only The Beatles, which have 19 No. 1s.

JAY-Z also furthers his own record as the artist with the most debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, as all 14 of his albums have bowed in the top slot. (Springsteen has the second-most No. 1 debuts, with eight.)

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new July 29-dated chart (where JAY-Z starts at No. 1) will be posted in full to Billboard’s websites on Tuesday, July 18.

4:44 was initially issued on June 30 (via S. Carter Enterprises/Roc Nation) for one week of streaming exclusivity through Tidal. However, Tidal did not report data for the album to Nielsen Music for the week ending July 6, so the album did not debut on the July 22-dated chart. (In addition, by July 2, the album was also offered as a free download — sponsored by Sprint — via the web site 444.tidal.com. The free downloads were ineligible to chart, per Billboard’s current pricing policy.)

Then, on July 7, the album became widely available to most streaming services (but not Spotify, as JAY-Z pulled his catalog from the service in April) and to retailers as both a download and CD (with three bonus tracks).

Overall, 4:44’s launch of 262,000 units grants the album the fourth-largest week of 2017, behind the debuts of Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN. (603,000 units), Drake’s More Life (505,000) and Ed Sheeran’s ÷ (Divide) (451,000).

Of 4:44’s 174,000 sales in the week ending July 13, the set sold 131,000 as a download and 43,000 on CD.

Despite 4:44’s absence from Spotify, the album still generated the fourth-biggest streaming debut of 2017. Of its total 262,000-unit start, 7,000 were in TEA units, while SEA units represented 82,000 units. The latter sum equals 122.4 million streams of the album’s songs. In terms of streaming debuts in 2017, it trails only Drake’s More Life (257,000 SEA units; 384.8 million song streams), Lamar’s DAMN.(227,000 SEA units; 340.6 million song streams) and Sheeran’s ÷ (90,000 SEA units; 134.6 million song streams).

JAY-Z’s previous album, Magna Carta…Holy Grail, debuted at No. 1 in 2013 with 528,000 copies sold in its first week (before the chart transitioned to a consumption-ranked tally in 2014). Like 4:44, Magna Carta was issued in a unique fashion: it was first released (on July 4, 2013) as a free download to certain Samsung phone and tablet users who had downloaded a JAY-Z-centric app. (One million copies were available for free to fans through the app.) It then became widely available to retailers on July 9.

Every one of JAY-Z’s solo studio albums have reached No. 1 since 1998’s Vol. 2… Hard Knock Life (which was also his first No. 1). His 14 chart-toppers also include three collaborative efforts: one each with R. Kelly (Unfinished Business), Linkin Park(MTV Ultimate Mash-Ups Presents: Collision Course) and Kanye West (Watch the Throne).

The rest of the new top 10 on the July 29-dated Billboard 200 chart will be revealed in a separate story posting later today (July 16).

Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee’s ‘Despacito’ Tops Hot 100 for Ninth Week & Becomes Top Radio Song

Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee‘s “Despacito,” featuring Justin Bieber, leads the Billboard Hot 100 chart (dated July 22) for a ninth week. It also rises to the top of the Radio Songs chart, becoming the first predominantly Spanish-language song ever to crown the airplay ranking.

Plus, French Montana‘s “Unforgettable,” featuring Swae Lee (of Rae Sremmurd), hits the Hot 100’s top 10, pushing 13-10.

As we do each Monday, let’s run down the top 10 of the Hot 100, which blends all-genre streaming, airplay and sales data. All charts will update on Billboard.com tomorrow (July 11), as they do every Tuesday.

“Despacito” (released on Universal Music Latino / Raymond Braun / SchoolBoy / Def Jam / UMLE / Republic Records) dominates the Digital Song Sales chart for a 10th week, with 129,000 downloads sold (down 6 percent) in the week ending July 6, according to Nielsen Music; the remix with Bieber accounts for 78 percent of the song’s sales (essentially even week-over-week and in line with its 80 percent share the four weeks before that).

The track is just the 11th to spend at least 10 weeks at No. 1 on Digital Song Sales and the first since Ed Sheeran‘s “Shape of You,” which tallied 10 beginning Jan. 28. On the Streaming Songs chart, “Despacito” leads for a ninth week, with 61.2 million U.S. streams (down 2 percent) in the week ending July 6.

On the all-format Radio Songs chart, “Despacito” rises 2-1 with 149 million in all-format airplay audience (up 5 percent) in the week ending July 9. The collab makes history as the first predominantly Spanish-language song (or any song not sung primarily in English) to reign, dating to the chart’s 1990 inception. To compare, the Hot 100’s last such No. 1 before “Despacito,” Los Del Rio’s “Macarena,” reached No. 7 on Radio Songs in 1996. One other such song has ascended to the Radio Songs top 10s: Enrique Iglesias’ fellow Spanish-language hit “Bailando,” featuring Descemer Bueno and Gente de Zona (No. 8, 2014; helped by a remix with English lyrics).

“Despacito” is Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s first Radio Songs No. 1 each and Bieber’s third, following his own “Sorry” and “Love Yourself,” which led for two and 11 weeks, respectively, in 2016. “Despacito” additionally rises to No. 1 on the top 40-based Pop Songs airplay chart (2-1), where it’s likewise the first predominantly non-English language leader; “Macarena” hit No. 5 on Pop Songs and “Bailando” reached No. 10 (while PSY’s Korean-language “Gangnam Style” climbed to No. 10 in 2012). “Despacito” is Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s first Pop Songs No. 1 apiece and Bieber’s fifth.

Notably, “Despacito” tops the Hot 100’s three main component charts (Streaming Songs, Digital Song Sales and Radio Songs) simultaneously. It’s the first song to dominate each chart at the same time since “Shape of You” (April 8 and 15).”Despacito” also rules the Hot Latin Songs chart for a 23rd week and the Songs of the Summer tally for a sixth week, having led the latter list each week since it made its annual return just after Memorial Day.

DJ Khaled‘s “I’m the One,” featuring Bieber, Quavo, Chance the Rapper and Lil Wayne, keeps at No. 2 on the Hot 100; it debuted atop the May 20-dated chart. It leads Hot Rap Songs for a 10th week and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs for a fifth frame. Meanwhile, Khaled spends a second week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with parent album Grateful, which holds on top with 70,000 equivalent album units.

Bruno Mars‘ “That’s What I Like” rebounds 4-3 on the Hot 100; it topped the May 13-dated chart. It also returns to the top of the Hot R&B Songs chart for a record-tying 20th week, matching the commands of The Weeknd’s “Starboy,” featuring Daft Punk (2016-17), and Drake’s “One Dance,” featuring WizKid and Kyla (2016), for the longest since the chart’s 2012 launch.

Back to Khaled: “Wild Thoughts,” also from Grateful and featuring Rihanna and Bryson Tiller, dips from its No. 3 Hot 100 high to No. 4. It keeps at No. 2 on Streaming Songs (39.8 million, down 5 percent) and jumps 17-14 on Radio Songs (78 million, up 28 percent), boasting the Hot 100’s top airplay gain for a second week.

Rounding out the Hot 100’s top five, Sheeran’s former 12-week No. 1 “Shape of You” remains at No. 5, while extending its record for the most weeks spent in the top five from a song’s debut, having now logged its first 26 weeks, or an even six months, on the Hot 100 in the top five, dating to its entrance at No. 1 (Jan. 28).

Kendrick Lamar‘s “Humble.,” which crowned the May 6-dated Hot 100, rises 7-6; Imagine Dragons‘ “Believer” slips from its No. 6 high to No. 7, while ruling Hot Rock Songs for an 18th week; and Sam Hunt‘s No. 6-peaking “Body Like a Back Road” travels back to the Hot 100’s top 10 (12-8) after 11 weeks outside the region (spent between Nos. 11 and 16). “Road” also pads its record for the most weeks logged atop the Hot Country Songs chart by a soloist to 22 (and is now within two weeks of tying Florida Georgia Line’s overall mark: 24 weeks at No. 1 for “Cruise” in 2012-13).

“Road” returns to the Hot 100’s top 10 with across-the-board gains, lifting 6-5 on Digital Song Sales (50,000, up 1 percent); 11-10 on Radio Songs, where it reached No. 9 in May (84 million, up 7 percent); and 18-16 on Streaming Songs (17.8 million, up 6 percent). Aiding its momentum is its continued crossover from country to pop radio, as it bullets at No. 11 on Adult Pop Songs and No. 20 on Pop Songs, while remaining in the top five of Country Airplay, which it led for three weeks in May.

Post Malone’s “Congratulations,” featuring Quavo, backtracks to No. 9 from its No. 8 Hot 100 peak, while French Montana‘s “Unforgettable,” featuring Swae Lee, leaps 13-10. The track marks French Montana’s second Hot 100 top 10 and first as a lead artist, following his featured turn on Chris Brown‘s No. 9-peaking “Loyal” in 2014. Swae Lee hits the top 10 in his first solo appearance, following one visit to the tier with Rae Sremmurd: its seven-week 2016-17 No. 1 “Black Beatles,” featuring Gucci Mane.

“Unforgettable” keeps at No. 9 on Streaming Songs (25.9 million, up 4 percent) and No. 19 on Radio Songs (57 million, up 12 percent) and lifts 25-24 on Digital Song Sales (22,000, down 5 percent). As for its title, “Unforgettable” is the first song by that name to reach the Hot 100’s top 10, following two other memorable compositions that each peaked in the top 20: by Dinah Washington (No. 17, 1959) and Natalie Cole (No. 14, 1991; the song famously incorporates her father Nat King Cole’s vocals).

Wait … nothing by The Chainsmokers in the Hot 100’s top 10? Their No. 3 hit “Something Just Like This,” with Coldplay, departs the bracket (10-13), ending a streak of 61 consecutive weeks in the top 10 for the duo, eight weeks shy of Katy Perry’s record 69-week top 10 run in 2010-11.

Also in the Hot 100’s top 15, two songs hit new highs: Shawn Mendes’ “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back” (18-14) and Charlie Puth‘s “Attention” (23-15). The singles surge thanks in part to 69-cent iTunes Store sale prices, bounding 14-3 (56,000, up 64 percent) and 21-2 (69,000, up 149 percent, marking the Hot 100’s greatest sales gain) on Digital Song Sales.

Find out more Hot 100 news in the weekly “Hot 100 Chart Moves” column and by listening (and subscribing) to Billboard‘s Chart Beat Podcast and Pop Shop Podcast, all posting this week. DJ Khaled Spends Second Week at No. 1 on Billboard 200, Calvin Harris Debuts at No. 2

DJ Khaled’s Grateful notches a second week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200albums chart — it is the first album to spend more than one week at No. 1 in two months. In the week ending July 6, Grateful earned 70,000 equivalent album units (down 53 percent), according to Nielsen Music. Traditional album sales comprised 16,000 (down 68 percent) of that sum.

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new July 22, 2017-dated chart (where DJ Khaled holds for a second week at No. 1) will be posted in full to Billboard’s websites on Tuesday, July 11.

DJ Khaled’s Grateful finished its second week stronger than expected, as some industry forecasters had suggested the album would earn around 60,000 units for the week. The album continues to be supported largely by streams, as it tallied 42,000 SEA units — down 48 percent — equaling 63.4 million on-demand audio streams for the album’s songs. Grateful also earned 12,000 TEA units for the week (down 36 percent).

Grateful’s 70,000 unit tally is the lowest sum for a No. 1 album in five months. The last No. 1 title to dip below that sum was The Weeknd’s Starboy, which earned 56,000 units on the Feb. 11-dated chart — the album’s fifth (and final) nonconsecutive week at No. 1.

Grateful is the first album to log more than one week at No. 1 since Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN. ruled the list for three consecutive weeks (May 6, 13 and 20). Between DAMN. and Grateful, seven albums took turns at No. 1 for one week each.

Debuting at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 is Calvin Harris’ Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1, earning the superstar DJ/producer his highest charting album yet. The star-filled dance-meets-R&B/hip-hop effort features guests ranging from Frank Ocean and Katy Perry to ScHoolboy Q and Nicki Minaj. Harris’ previous high on the Billboard 200 was logged when his last studio effort, Motion, debuted and peaked at No. 5 in 2014.

Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1 was released on June 30 through Fly Eye/Columbia Records and launches with 68,000 units, which is bigger than some had anticipated. Of the album’s debut sum, 23,000 were in traditional album sales, 6,000 were in TEA units and 39,000 were in SEA units.

At No. 3 on the new Billboard 200, DAMN. stays steady, earning 56,000 units (down 6 percent). The former No. 1 has yet to depart the top three of the chart after 12 weeks on the list. The set has earned 1.83 million equivalent album units and 1.51 billion on-demand audio streams for its songs.

Imagine Dragons’ Evolve falls from No. 2 to No. 4 in its second week, earning 44,000 units (down 70 percent) while Ed Sheeran’s ÷ (Divide) rises from No. 7 to No. 5 with 38,000 units (up 5 percent). Sheeran’s U.S. tour launched on June 29, while he also performed on NBC’s Today on July 6. The buzz generated by his tour kickoff and the Today show the appearance likely generated the gain for the album, which is also up 13 percent in traditional album sales (rising to 13,000 copies sold).

2 Chainz’s Pretty Girls Like Trap Music dips 5-6 with a little more than 33,000 units (down 23 percent) while Bruno Mars’ 24K Magic climbs 9-7 with 33,000 units (up 5 percent).

Rock band Stone Sour clocks the second and final debut in the top 10, as Hydrogradbows at No. 8 with a little less than 33,000 units (30,000 in traditional album sales). The album marks the fifth top 10-charting effort for the group, which first reached the region with 2006’s No. 4-peaking Come What(ever) May.

Hydrograd is the band’s first album of original material since 2013’s House of Gold & Bones: Part 2 debuted and peaked at No. 10. The band last charted with the covers EP Meanwhile In Burbank…, which hit No. 78 in 2015.

Rounding out the new top 10: Drake’s More Life falls 8-9 with 32,000 units (down 8 percent) and the soundtrack to Moana holds at No. 10 with 31,000 units (up 3 percent).

Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee‘s “Despacito,” featuring Justin Bieber, leads the Billboard Hot 100 chart (dated July 15) for an eighth week. Meanwhile, Imagine Dragons‘ “Believer” surges 11-6, marking the rock band’s third top 10 and first in three-and-a-half years.

As we do each Monday, let’s run down the top 10 of the Hot 100, which blends all-genre streaming, airplay and sales data. (Even with the July 4 holiday, all charts will update on Billboard.com tomorrow, as they do every Tuesday.)

“Despacito” (released on Universal Music Latino / Raymond Braun / SchoolBoy / Def Jam / UMLE / Republic Records) dominates the Digital Song Sales chart for a ninth week, with 136,000 downloads sold (down 1 percent) in the week ending June 29, according to Nielsen Music; the remix with Bieber accounts for 78 percent of the song’s sales (essentially even week-over-week and in line with its 80 percent share the three weeks before that).

The track tops the Streaming Songs chart for an eighth frame, with 62.6 million U.S. streams (down 6 percent) in the week ending June 29. On Radio Songs, “Despacito” holds at No. 2 with 143 million in all-format airplay audience (up 7 percent) in the week ending July 2.

“Despacito” also rules the Hot Latin Songs chart for a 22nd week and the Songs of the Summer chart for a fifth week, having led the latter list each week since it made its annual return just after Memorial Day.

DJ Khaled‘s “I’m the One,” featuring Bieber, Quavo, Chance the Rapper and Lil Wayne, keeps at No. 2 on the Hot 100; it debuted atop the May 20-dated chart. It leads Hot Rap Songs for a ninth week and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs for a fourth frame. Meanwhile, Khaled adds his second No. 1 on the Billboard 200, as parent album Grateful bows on top with 149,000 equivalent album units.

Thanks to “Despacito” and “I’m the One,” Bieber has ranked at Nos. 1 and 2 on the Hot 100 simultaneously each of the past three weeks, marking his longest such double-up. He previously held the top two spots on Feb. 6 and 13, 2016, with “Sorry” and “Love Yourself. (Unlike with his two current hits, Bieber was the lead, and only, artist on those two songs, also both No. 1 hits.) Bieber is the first act to link three straight weeks at Nos. 1 and 2 concurrently in more than three years, since Iggy Azalea did so for five frames in June and July 2014.

The last male to achieve the feat for at least three weeks before Bieber was Pharrell Williams, for five weeks in 2013.

More on Bieber at Nos. 1 and 2 in a moment. First, Khaled continued: “Wild Thoughts,” also from Grateful and featuring Rihanna and Bryson Tiller, ascends 4-3 in its second week on the Hot 100. It keeps at No. 2 on Streaming Songs (41.8 million, up 15 percent); dips 2-4 on Digital Song Sales (58,000, down 35 percent); and pushes 23-17 on Radio Songs (61 million, up 48 percent), winning the Hot 100’s awards for top streaming and airplay gains. “Thoughts” also takes over atop Hot R&B Songs (2-1), marking Rihanna’s fifth leader on the list and the first each for Khaled and Tiller (dating to the chart’s 2012 launch).

Perhaps foretelling further chart fortunes, “Thoughts” is the first song to debut in the Hot 100’s top 10 and then rise in rank in its second week since The Chainsmokers‘ “Closer,” featuring Halsey, which arrived at No. 9 on Aug. 20, 2016, and climbed to No. 6 the following frame, on its way to a 12-week reign at No. 1. “Thoughts” is the first song to debut in the top five and lift in its second week since Eminem‘s “The Monster,” featuring (guess who) Rihanna, which started at No. 3 on Nov. 16, 2013, and rose to No. 2 the next week, before topping the Hot 100 for four weeks.

Now, more Khaled and back to Bieber: as Bieber ranks at Nos. 1 and 2 concurrently on the Hot 100 and Khaled holds down Nos. 2 (shared with Bieber) and 3, the pair combines for a first in the history of the chart (which began on Aug. 4, 1958): Never before had two acts each claimed two spots in the top three simultaneously, an achievement this week that reflects not only the success of “I’m the One,” but Bieber and Khaled’s concurrent high profiles thanks also to “Despacito” and “Thoughts,” respectively.

Bruno Mars‘ “That’s What I Like” retreats 3-4 on the Hot 100; it topped the May 13-dated chart. Still, it leads Radio Songs for a ninth week (147 million, down 3 percent). Closing out the top five, Ed Sheeran‘s former 12-week Hot 100 No. 1 “Shape of You” remains at No. 5, while extending its record for the most weeks spent in the top five from a song’s debut, having now logged its first 25 weeks on the Hot 100 in the top five, dating to its entrance at No. 1 (Jan. 28).

Imagine Dragons fire up their third Hot 100 top 10, as “Believer” bounds 11-6. The group previously reached the region with “Radioactive” (which peaked at No. 3 and set the record for the most weeks totaled on the Hot 100: 87) and “Demons” (No. 6), both in 2013. As parent album Evolve arrives at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, “Believer” charges 6-2 on Digital Song Sales (68,000, up 36 percent), good for the Hot 100’s top sales gain; lifts 10-9 on Radio Songs (85 million, up 8 percent); and climbs 20-15 on Streaming Songs (17.9 million, up 15 percent).

“Believer” controls the Hot Rock Songs chart for a 17th week. It previously led the Alternative Songs airplay chart for 13 weeks, the longest No. 1 run since Imagine Dragons’ own “Radioactive” also ruled for 13 weeks in 2013.

Also notably, and more than halfway through 2017, “Believer” is the first rock song (defined as a title that has hit the Hot Rock Songs chart) to reach the Hot 100’s top 10 this year, out of 43 total top 10s. (A year ago at this time, four rock songs had hit the Hot 100’s top 10, of 38 total top 10s; in 2015, the count was 3 rock titles of 33 top 10s in the same span.)

Rounding out the Hot 100’s top 10, Kendrick Lamar‘s “Humble.,” which crowned the May 6-dated chart, backtracks 6-7; Post Malone‘s first Hot 100 top 10, “Congratulations,” featuring Quavo, maintains its No. 8 peak; Future‘s No. 5-peaking “Mask Off” drops 7-9; and The Chainsmokers and Coldplay‘s No. 3 hit “Something Just Like This” descends 9-10, as The Chainsmokers spend a 61st consecutive week in the Hot 100’s top 10, a streak second only to Katy Perry‘s record 69-week run in 2010-11. The collab also tops the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart for a 14th week.

Find out more Hot 100 news in the weekly “Hot 100 Chart Moves” column and by listening (and subscribing) to Billboard‘s Chart Beat Podcast and Pop Shop Podcast, all posting this week. MUSIC: Listen to the National Anthem for the U.S.A. Performed by Whitney Houston

“The Star-Spangled Banner” is the national anthem of the United States of America. The lyrics come from “Defence of Fort M’Henry“, a poem written on September 14, 1814, by the 35-year-old lawyer and amateur poet Francis Scott Keyafter witnessing the bombardment of Fort McHenry by British ships of the Royal Navy in Baltimore Harbor during the Battle of Baltimore in the War of 1812. Key was inspired by the large American flag, the Star-Spangled Banner, flying triumphantly above the fort during the American victory.

The poem was set to the tune of a popular British song written by John Stafford Smith for the Anacreontic Society, a men’s social club in London. “To Anacreon in Heaven” (or “The Anacreontic Song”), with various lyrics, was already popular in the United States. Set to Key’s poem and renamed “The Star-Spangled Banner”, it soon became a well-known American patriotic song. With a range of one octave and one fifth (a semitone more than an octave and a half), it is known for being difficult to sing. Although the poem has four stanzas, only the first is commonly sung today.

“The Star-Spangled Banner” was recognized for official use by the United States Navy in 1889, and by U.S. President Woodrow Wilson in 1916, and was made the national anthem by a congressional resolution on March 3, 1931 (46 Stat. 1508, codified at 36 U.S.C. § 301), which was signed by President Herbert Hoover.

Before 1931, other songs served as the hymns of American officialdom. “Hail, Columbia” served this purpose at official functions for most of the 19th century. “My Country, ‘Tis of Thee”, whose melody is identical to “God Save the Queen”, the British national anthem, also served as a de facto anthem. Following the War of 1812 and subsequent American wars, other songs emerged to compete for popularity at public events, among them “The Star-Spangled Banner”, as well as “America the Beautiful”.

Lyrics

O say can you see, by the dawn’s early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight,
O’er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets’ red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there;
O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

DJ Khaled’s ‘Grateful’ Debuts at No. 1 on Billboard 200 Albums Chart

Plus, Imagine Dragons’ ‘Evolve’ arrives at No. 2 and Prince and the Revolution’s reissued ‘Purple Rain’ soundtrack returns at No. 4.

DJ Khaled lands his second No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart as his latest release, Grateful, bows atop the list. The set — which was released on June 23 through We the Best/Epic Records — earned 149,000 equivalent album units in the week ending June 29, according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, 50,000 were in traditional album sales.

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new July 15, 2017-dated chart (where DJ Khaled debuts at No. 1) will be posted in full to Billboard’s websites on Tuesday, July 4.

Grateful follows DJ Khaled’s first No. 1, earned a little less than a year ago, when Major Key launched in the penthouse (on the list dated Aug. 20, 2016) with 95,000 units. Of that starting-week sum, 59,000 were in traditional album sales. (Notably, during Major Key’s first week of release, it was exclusively available to stream through Apple Music, and for sale as a download through the iTunes Store. Grateful, however, was widely available at all streaming services and retailers.)

In total, Grateful marks DJ Khaled’s seventh top 10-charting effort, stretching back to 2007’s We the Best, which debuted and peaked at No. 8.

The new album is powered by streams, as it logged a robust 81,000 SEA units — the largest SEA haul for an album since the May 27-dated list, when Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN. tallied 86,000 SEA units in its fourth week on the list. (Grateful’s81,000 SEA units equates to 121.19 million on-demand audio streams for the collected tracks on the album during the tracking week.)

The rest of Grateful’s debut frame is comprised of TEA units (a little under 19,000).

Grateful was ushered in by a pair of top five-charting hits on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart, “I’m the One” (his first No. 1 on the list), featuring Justin Bieber, Quavo, Chance the Rapper and Lil Wayne, and “Wild Thoughts,” featuring Rihanna and Bryson Tiller. DJ Khaled’s star-packed Grateful album also boasts guests such as Beyoncé, JAY-Z, Drake, Alicia Keys, Nicki Minaj and Calvin Harris.

At No. 2 on the new Billboard 200, Imagine Dragons’ new Evolve arrives with 147,000 units and the biggest week of the year for a rock album. Its starting sum is the biggest frame for a rock effort since Metallica’s Hardwired… To Self-Destructlaunched at No. 1 with 282,000 units on the list dated Dec. 20, 2016.

Further, Evolve sold 109,000 in traditional album sales — earning the rock group the top-selling album of the week, as it launches at No. 1 on the Top Album Saleschart. Evolve logs the third-largest sales week for a rock set this year, following the debuts of John Mayer’s The Search for Everything (120,000) and Gorillaz’s Humanz(115,000).

The new album’s debut frame is comprised mostly of album sales, while its SEA and TEA units trail far behind comparatively (just under 23,000 and 15,000, respectively).

Evolve, Imagine Dragons’ third full-length studio effort, is the quartet’s third top 10 album on the Billboard 200, following Smoke + Mirrors (No. 1 in 2015) and Night Visions (No. 2 in 2012). Smoke started with 195,000 units (172,000 in album sales). The new album sports the hit single “Believer,” which has racked up 16 weeks (and counting) at No. 1 on the Hot Rock Songs chart. The song also spent 13 weeks at No. 1 on the airplay-based Alternative Songs chart — the longest run at No. 1 for any song since the band’s own “Radioactive” spent 13 weeks atop the list in 2013.

At No. 3 on the Billboard 200, Kendrick Lamar’s former No. 1 DAMN. holds its position, earning 59,000 units (down 16 percent).

Prince and the Revolution’s Purple Rain soundtrack, first released in 1984, re-enters the list straight in at No. 4, following its deluxe remastered reissue on June 23. The album — combining all versions of Purple Rain, past and present — earned 52,000 units in the tracking frame (of which 48,000 were in traditional album sales). The set collected a 3,633 percent gain in units for the week, and a 4,767 percent leap in album sales.

The former No. 1 — which spent 24 weeks atop the list in 1984 — is Prince’s first album to get get the remastered-and-deluxed treatment. Its redux was announced in 2014, when Prince signed a new deal with Warner Bros. Records. According to a press release from the label, the remaster of the original album was “overseen and sanctioned” by the late artist (who died in 2016).

Purple Rain was reissued in a variety of formats, including a 20-track deluxe edition with unreleased bonus tracks and a 35-track expanded edition with additional B-sides, rarities and a live DVD of the Purple Rain Tour from 1985.

2 Chainz’s Pretty Girls Like Trap Music slides from No. 2 to No. 5 in its second week on the Billboard 200, earning 43,000 units (down 59 percent).

Alternative rock band 311 claims its 10th top 10 album on the Billboard 200 as MOSAIC debuts at No. 6 with 39,000 units (37,000 in traditional album sales). The group last hit the top 10 in 2014 with Stereolithic, which also launched at No. 6 (with 41,000 in sales — before the chart transitioned to a consumption-ranked tally later that year).

Ed Sheeran’s ÷ (Divide) stays steady at No. 7 on the new Billboard 200 (36,000 units; down 5 percent), and Drake’s More Life descends 6-8 (34,000 units; down 18 percent); the sets ruled for two and three weeks, respectively. Bruno Mars’ 24K Magic climbs 10-9 (32,000 units; up 5 percent).

Closing out the top 10 is the soundtrack to Moana, which rises 15-10 with 29,000 units (up 21 percent), of which 13,000 are in traditional album sales (up 15 percent). The album’s rise is likely owed to its parent film’s June 20 arrival to Netflix. The film was released in theaters last November, and then issued on home video in March.

MUSIC: Enjoy this Song “Falls On Me” by Fuel

“Falls on Me” is the official lead single by Fuel from their 2003 album Natural Selection. It is the second overall single from the album with “Won’t Back Down” having been originally released on Daredevil: The Album a few months prior.

Written by guitarist Carl Bell, “Falls on Me” is about the difficulties of remaining in a monogamous relationship; according to Bell, “Everybody is hardwired to have some wanderlust in them… But that song comes from having a relationship and trying to honor it and not mess up something beautiful.”

“Falls on Me” was released as a single and received moderate airplay on radio and MTV, reaching #52 on the Billboard Hot 100 in early 2004. It hit #9 and #11 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks and the Modern Rock Tracks charts, although it didn’t make a big impact on rock radio only being moderately successful, it did became a crossover hit peaking #13 and #17 on the Mainstream Top 40 and Adult Top 40 charts, in spite of the crossover success, it managed to have more airplay on rock stations even more than the band’s minor hits that charted higher on the rock charts. This is the band’s 3rd and last major hit and it is also the band’s 3rd most played and most successful song to date only behind Shimmer and Hemorrhage (In My Hands).

The song was released on CD single outside the USA and included the track “On the Road Again,” a cover song recorded during the Natural Selection sessions.

‘Despacito’ Tops Hot 100 for 7th Week & DJ Khaled’s ‘Wild Thoughts,’ Featuring Rihanna & Bryson Tiller, Debuts at No. 4

Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee‘s “Despacito,” featuring Justin Bieber, rules the Billboard Hot 100 chart (dated July 8) for a seventh week. Meanwhile, DJ Khaled‘s new single “Wild Thoughts,” featuring Rihanna and Bryson Tiller, soars onto the Hot 100 at No. 4.

As we do each Monday, let’s run down the top 10 of the Hot 100, which blends all-genre sales, airplay and streaming data. All charts will update on Billboard.com tomorrow, June 27.

“Despacito” (released on Universal Music Latino / Raymond Braun / SchoolBoy / Def Jam / UMLE / Republic Records) leads the Digital Song Sales chart for an eighth week, with 139,000 downloads sold (down 1 percent) in the week ending June 22, according to Nielsen Music; the remix with Bieber accounts for 78 percent of the song’s sales (in line with its 80 percent share the prior three weeks). The track tops the Streaming Songs chart for a seventh week, with 66.6 million U.S. streams (down 4 percent) in the week ending June 22. On Radio Songs, “Despacito” pushes 3-2 with 134 million in all-format airplay audience (up 6 percent) in the week ending June 18.

Now on top for seven weeks, “Despacito” is halfway to matching the command of the longest-leading predominantly Spanish-language Hot 100 No. 1: Los Del Rio’s “Macarena” (powered by its Bayside Boys remix) ruled for 14 weeks in 1996.

“Despacito” also tops the Hot Latin Songs chart for a 21st week and the Songs of the Summer chart for a fourth frame, having led each week since the summery summary made its annual return just after Memorial Day.

DJ Khaled’s “I’m the One,” featuring Bieber, Quavo, Chance the Rapper and Lil Wayne, keeps at No. 2 on the Hot 100; it debuted atop theMay 20-dated chart and then spent five weeks at No. 3 before its rebound to No. 2. “One” dips 2-3 on both Streaming Songs and Digital Song Sales, while lifting 7-6 on Radio Songs (109 million, up 2 percent). It crowns Hot Rap Songs for an eighth week and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs for a third frame.

Bruno Mars‘ “That’s What I Like” is steady at No. 3 on the Hot 100; it topped the May 13-dated chart. Still, it leads Radio Songs for an eighth week (152 million, down 2 percent), breaking a tie for his longest command as a lead artist, as it passes the seven-week No. 1 runs of “Just the Way You Are” (2010) and “Locked Out of Heaven” (2013); he’s led longer only as featured on Mark Ronson’s “Uptown Funk!” (12 weeks, 2015). “Like” also leads Hot R&B Songs for a 19th week.

Impressively, Mars’ record label, Atlantic Records, has now led Radio Songs for 20 consecutive weeks, thanks to “Like” and Ed Sheeran‘s “Shape of You,” which racked a 12-week reign directly before. That’s the longest streak for a label since then-Island Def Jam Music Group linked 24 straight weeks at No. 1 in 2005 with Mariah Carey’s “We Belong Together” (16) and “Shake It Off” (three) and Kanye West’s “Gold Digger,” featuring Jamie Foxx (five).

Now, more Khaled: “Wild Thoughts,” featuring Rihanna and Tiller, blasts onto the Hot 100 at No. 4 (following its June 16 release). It starts at No. 2 on both Digital Song Sales (89,000 sold) and Streaming Songs (36.3 million) and No. 23 on Radio Songs (42 million), marking the highest-ever debut on the lattermost list for Khaled, Rihanna and Tiller and the best by any act since Meghan Trainor‘s “No” began at No. 21 on March 26, 2016.

“Thoughts,” from Khaled’s new album, Grateful, released Friday (June 23), and which samples Santana’s “Maria Maria,” a 10-week Hot 100 No. 1 (featuring The Product G&B) in 2000, marks Rihanna’s 31st top 10, the third-best total dating to the Hot 100’s Aug. 4, 1958, launch. Here’s an updated look at the acts with the most Hot 100 top 10s:

38, Madonna
34, The Beatles
31, Rihanna
29, Michael Jackson (as a soloist)
28, Stevie Wonder

Khaled collects his third Hot 100 top 10, following “I’m the One” and “I’m on One” (featuring Drake, Rick Ross and Lil Wayne), the latter of which reached No. 10 in 2011. Tiller, who posted his first Billboard 200 No. 1 album three weeks ago with True to Self, earns his first Hot 100 top 10. He previously hit a No. 13 high in January 2016 with his debut entry, “Don’t.”

“Thoughts” additionally marks the third-highest debut of Rihanna’s now 60 Hot 100 entries. She started at higher ranks only as featured on two Eminem tracks that each eventually hit No. 1: “Love the Way You Lie” (No. 2 debut, 2010) and “The Monster” (No. 3, 2013). Meanwhile, Rihanna is the fourth woman to make at least 60 Hot 100 appearances, joining Nicki Minaj (78), Aretha Franklin (73) and Taylor Swift (70).

Rounding out the Hot 100’s top five, Sheeran’s former 12-week Hot 100 No. 1 “Shape of You” descends 4-5, while extending its record for the most weeks spent in the top five from a song’s debut, having now tallied its first 24 weeks on the Hot 100 in the top five, dating to its start at No. 1 (Jan. 28).

Kendrick Lamar‘s “Humble.,” which topped the May 6-dated Hot 100, slips 5-6; Future‘s No. 5-peaking “Mask Off” drops 6-7; and Post Malone’s first Hot 100 top 10, “Congratulations,” featuring Quavo, rises to a new peak (9-8).

The Chainsmokers and Coldplay‘s No. 3-peaking “Something Just Like This” retreats 7-9 on the Hot 100, as The Chainsmokers spend a 60th consecutive week in the top 10, a streak second only to Katy Perry’s record 69-week run in 2010-11. The collab also collects a 13th week atop the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart. Capping the Hot 100’s top 10, Zedd and Alessia Cara‘s “Stay” falls 8-10 after reaching No. 7.

Just beyond the Hot 100’s top 10, Imagine Dragons‘ “Believer” hits a new high (15-11), while ruling Hot Rock Songs for a 16th week, and Selena Gomez‘s “Bad Liar” jumps 23-20, reaching the top 20 for the first time, boosted by the June 14 premiere of its official video.
