Taylor Swift’s ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ Leaps to No. 1 on Hot 100 With Top Streaming & Sales Week of 2017

Swift scores her fifth Hot 100 No. 1 and breaks the weekly streaming record for a song by a woman. “Look” also stops the record-tying 16-week reign of “Despacito.”

Taylor Swift‘s “Look What You Made Me Do” blasts from No. 77 (where it debuted) to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart (dated Sept. 16), following its first full week of data tracking. After its Aug. 25 release, the song soars to the top with the highest weekly streaming and sales sums for a track in 2017 and breaks the record for the most weekly streams ever for a song by a woman.

“Look” — released on Big Machine/Republic Records and the first single from Swift’s album Reputation (her first since 1989 in 2014), due Nov. 10 — is her fifth Hot 100 No. 1. It also dethrones Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee‘s “Despacito,” featuring Justin Bieber, which a week ago tied the record for the most weeks spent at No. 1 (16) in the Hot 100’s 59-year history.

Let’s run down the numerous achievements for “Look” as it crowns the Hot 100, which blends all-genre streaming, airplay and sales data. Highlights of the rest of the top 10 will post on Billboard.com later today (Sept. 5), and all charts will update on Billboard.com tomorrow (Sept. 6).

Record-breaking streams: Following its first week of streaming, “Look” blasts onto the Streaming Songs chart at No. 1 with 84.4 million U.S. streams in the week ending Aug. 31, according to Nielsen Music. The total is not only the highest for any song this year, passing the 69.6 million with which “Despacito” peaked on the June 17-dated chart, but the highest ever in a week for a song by a female artist, surpassing the debut week of Adele‘s “Hello” (61.6 million, Nov. 14, 2015).

Only one song has posted a greater weekly total than “Look” on Streaming Songs (which began on March 2, 2013): Baauer‘s “Harlem Shake,” which peaked with 103 million, powered heavily by user-generated clips featuring the song’s audio (the week that the survey debuted).

Swift adds her third Streaming Songs No. 1, following “Shake It Off” and “Blank Space.” She ties Miley Cyrus for the most by a woman; among all acts, only Bieber has earned more No. 1s (four).

Best weekly sales of 2017: “Look” also launches with the top weekly download sales this year: 353,000 in the week ending Aug. 31, as it starts at No. 1 on the Digital Song Sales chart. That tops the 240,000-download start for Ed Sheeran‘s “Shape of You” (Jan. 28). “Look” sports the highest weekly sales since Justin Timberlake‘s “Can’t Stop the Feeling!” bowed with 379,000 on May 28, 2016 (and the best total for a woman since Adele’s “Hello” sold 480,000 in its third week, reflected on the Nov. 28, 2015-dated Digital Song Sales chart).

Swift scores her 12th Digital Song Sales No. 1, passing Katy Perry (11) for the second-most; Rihanna leads with 14 toppers on the tally.

Swift ascent: With its 77-1 vault on the Hot 100, “Look” makes the fifth-greatest leap to No. 1 of all-time. Kelly Clarkson‘s “My Life Would Suck Without You” leads with its 97-1 surge (Feb. 7, 2009). Swift replaces herself for the fifth-biggest jump to the summit: her first leader, 2012’s “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” rocketed 72-1. (Both “Look” and “Never” debuted from initial airplay before bounding to No. 1 following their first full weeks of streaming and sales tracking. Streaming and sales follow a Friday-Thursday measurement week, while airplay is tracked Monday-Sunday for the Hot 100’s tabulation.)

High(est) five: Swift first led the Hot 100 with “Never” for three weeks in 2012. She added her second, third and fourth No. 1s from 1989: “Shake It Off” (four weeks, 2014), “Blank Space” (seven, 2014-15) and “Bad Blood,” featuring Kendrick Lamar(one, 2015). With “Look” leading in its second week on the Hot 100, all five of Swift’s No. 1s have reigned in four or fewer chart weeks.

Swift is the 13th woman (her favorite number!) with at least five Hot 100 No. 1s. Mariah Carey leads all women (and soloists) with 18 No. 1s, second among all artists only to the Beatles‘ 20.

First singles ranking first: Swift has now topped the Hot 100 with the first single from each of her last three albums. “Look” introduces Reputation; “Shake,” which debuted atop the Hot 100, ushered in 1989, and “Never” was released as the first single from Red.

‘Look’ and listen: As it leads Streaming Songs and Digital Song Sales, “Look” charges 23-14 on the Radio Songs chart with 64 million all-format audience impressions following its first full week of airplay tracking. (It debuted a week ago with 46 million in its first three days.) Most notably, “Look” roars 21-9 on the Pop Songs chart (which is based on total weekly plays on a 164-station panel of mainstream top 40 stations), marking Swift’s 14th top 10. It makes the fastest flight to the chart’s top 10 since Timberlake’s “Feeling” flew 24-10 on May 28, 2016.

Leading lady: More than nine months into 2017, Swift is the first woman to top the Hot 100 this year. She’s the first since Halsey reigned, as featured on the Chainsmokers‘ “Closer,” which wrapped its 12-week rule on Nov. 19, 2016. Until “Look,” no woman had topped the Hot 100 in a lead role in more than a year: since Sia‘s “Cheap Thrills,” featuring Sean Paul, led for four weeks from Aug. 6 through Aug. 27, 2016.

Further, “Look” is the first song by a woman unaccompanied by a male artist to rule the Hot 100 since Adele’s “Hello” led for 10 weeks (Nov. 14, 2015-Jan. 16, 2016). The only other such No. 1s since the start of 2014: Swift’s “Shake” and “Space” and Meghan Trainor‘s “All About That Bass.”

Atop the Hot 100, “Look” supplants “Despacito,” which on the Sept. 9-dated chart logged its 16th week at No. 1, matching Carey and Boyz II Men‘s “One Sweet Day” (16 weeks, 1995-96) for the longest command in the chart’s archives. On the new Sept. 16 list, “Despacito” dips to No. 2.

Again, highlights of the rest of the Sept. 16-dated Hot 100’s top 10 will post on Billboard.com later today (Sept. 5), and all charts will update on Billboard.com tomorrow (Sept. 6).

MUSIC: Listen to this Song “The Music of the Night” Sung by Andrea Bocelli

Andrea Bocelli, OMRI, OMDSM (Italian pronunciation: [anˈdrɛːa boˈtʃɛlli]; born 22 September 1958) is an Italian classical crossover tenor, recording artist, and singer-songwriter. Born with poor eyesight, Bocelli became permanently blind at the age of 12, following a football accident.

Bocelli has recorded fifteen solo studio albums, of both pop and classical music, three greatest hits albums, and nine complete operas, selling over 80 million records worldwide. He has had success as a crossover performer bringing classical music to the top of international pop charts.

In 1998, Bocelli was named one of People‘s 50 Most Beautiful People. In 1999, Bocelli was nominated for Best New Artist at the Grammy Awards. “The Prayer”, his duet with Celine Dion for the animated film Quest for Camelot, won the Golden Globe for Best Original Song and was nominated for an Academy Award in the same category. With the release of his classical album, Sacred Arias, Bocelli captured a listing in the Guinness Book of World Records, as he simultaneously held the top three positions on the US Classical Albums charts. Seven of his albums have since reached the top 10 on the Billboard 200, and a record-setting ten have topped the classical crossover albums charts in the United States.

With five million units sold worldwide, Sacred Arias became the biggest-selling classical crossover album by a solo artist of all time, and with over twenty million copies sold worldwide, his 1997 pop album Romanza became the best-selling album by an Italian artist of any genre in history, as well as the best-selling album by a foreign artist in Canada and a number of countries in Europe and Latin America. The album’s first single, “Time to Say Goodbye”, was a duet with Sarah Brightman that topped charts across Europe, including Germany, where it stayed at the top of the charts for fourteen consecutive weeks, breaking the all-time sales record, with over three million copies sold in the country. The single went on to sell over twelve million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling singles of all time.

Bocelli was made a Grand Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic in 2006 and, on 2 March 2010, was honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his contribution to Live Theater.

“The Music of the Night” (also labeled as just “Music of the Night“) is a song from the 1986 musical The Phantom of the Opera. The music was written by Andrew Lloyd Webber with lyrics by Charles Hart. It has appeared on multiple soundtracks of the musical, such as the original cast version in which English actor Michael Crawford sings the song.

Lil Uzi Vert’s ‘Luv Is Rage 2’ Debuts at No. 1 on Billboard 200 Albums Chart

Rapper Lil Uzi Vert bows at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart with his debut studio album, Luv Is Rage 2, starting with 135,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending Aug. 31, according to Nielsen Music. The album was released on Aug. 25 through Generation Now/Atlantic Records, and follows two earlier charting efforts for the artist.

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new Sept. 16-dated chart (where Luv Is Rage 2 debuts at No. 1) will be posted in full on Billboard‘s websites on Wednesday (Sept. 6) — one day later than usual, due to the U.S. Labor Day holiday on Sept. 4.

Of Luv Is Rage 2’s total debut units, 28,000 are in traditional album sales. The album is powered mostly by SEA units: 100,000 — translating to 150.6 million on-demand audio streams of the tracks on the album. The rest of the album’s starting figure is 7,000 TEA units.

Luv Is Rage 2’s streaming sum of 100,000 SEA units is the largest for an album in nearly four months (since Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN. tallied 105,000 units in its third chart week; May 20) and the third-largest streaming debut of 2017 (behind Drake’s More Life, with 257,000 SEA units on the April 8 chart, and DAMN.’s debut of 227,000 SEA units on the May 6 chart).

Luv is Rage 2 features the top 10-charting Billboard Hot 100 hit “XO TOUR Llif3,” which peaked at No. 7 in June.

At No. 2 on the new Billboard 200, another rapper debuts, as XXXTentacion debuts with his first full-length studio effort 17. It arrives with 87,000 units. Of that sum, 18,000 are in traditional album sales, 67,000 are in SEA units and 3,000 are in TEA units. Earlier in 2017, he notched a pair of Hot 100 hits with “Look at Me!” (peaking at No. 34) and “Roll In Peace” (Kodak Black featuring XXXTentacion, No. 53).

XXXTentacion charted one previous set on the Billboard 200 with the Revengemixtape, hitting No. 44 in June.

Rock band Queens of the Stone Age earns its fifth top 40-charting album as Villainsstarts at No. 3 with 73,000 units (69,000 in traditional album sales). The group previously hit the top 10 with its last album, …Like Clockwork (No. 1 in 2013) and 2005’s Lullabies to Paralyze (No. 5).

Villains is also the best selling album of the week, as it starts at No. 1 on the Top Album Sales chart.

Pop vocal group Fifth Harmony claims its fourth top 10 effort on the Billboard 200, as its new self-titled album bows at No. 4 with 46,000 units (32,000 in traditional album sales). The girl group’s last album, 7/27, also debuted and peaked at No. 4 in 2016 (74,000 in units and 49,000 in sales). Before 7/27, the group collected top 10s with Reflection (No. 5 in 2015) and the Better Together EP (No. 6 in 2013).

With four top 10 albums, Fifth Harmony equals the number of top 10 sets from fellow all-female acts Destiny’s Child and Dixie Chicks. Among all-female groups, only The Supremes have more, with eight top 10s logged between 1965 and 1969.

Kendrick Lamar’s former No. 1 DAMN. slips from No. 3 to No. 5 with 45,000 units (though it’s up 11 percent). The set spends its 20th consecutive week in the top five, since debuting at No. 1 on the May 6-dated chart.

Rap collective A$AP Mob follows up its No. 13-peaking Cozy Tapes, Vol. 1: Friendswith the new Cozy Tapes, Vol. 2: Too Cozy, which launches at No. 6. The new effort bows with 41,000 units (7,000 in traditional album sales) and is mostly powered by streams (32,000 SEA units). The first Cozy Tapes effort started with 21,000 units back on the Nov. 19, 2016-dated list.

Trailing A$AP Mob by a small margin, country group Old Dominion debuts at No. 7 on the new Billboard 200 with its second-full length studio album Happy Endings(41,000 units; 31,000 in album sales), granting the act its highest charting effort yet. The album was led by the single “No Such Thing as a Broken Heart,” which reached No. 5 on the Hot Country Songs chart and No. 1 on the Country Airplay chart. Old Dominion previously reached the Billboard 200 with its first studio set, Meat and Candy (No. 16 in 2015) and its self-titled EP (No. 148 in 2015).

Khalid’s American Teen moves 6-8 with 33,000 units (up 15 percent) while Kodak Black’s Project Baby Two falls 2-9 in its second week with just under 33,000 units (down 34 percent).

Rock band The War on Drugs lands its first top 10 effort as its fourth studio album, A Deeper Understanding, starts at No. 10 with 31,000 units (28,000 in traditional album sales). The group’s last release, Lost In the Dream, debuted and peaked at No. 26 in 2014.

A total of seven albums debut in the top 10, giving the chart the most new arrivals in the region since the Nov. 12, 2016-dated tally, when seven albums also launched in the top 10 (led by Lady Gaga’s No. 1 bow with Joanne).

MUSIC: Listen to this Song “See You Again” by Wiz Khalifa ft. Charlie Puth

“See You Again” is a song recorded by American rapper Wiz Khalifa, featuring American singer Charlie Puth. Later on, the song was included as a bonus track on the international release of Puth’s debut album, Nine Track Mind. The artists co-wrote the song with its co-producers, DJ Frank E and Andrew Cedar, with additional production from Puth and mixing provided by Manny Marroquin. “See You Again” was released on March 10, 2015, as the soundtrack’s lead single in the United States.

Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee & Justin Bieber’s ‘Despacito’ Ties for Longest Run at No. 1 in Hot 100’s History

With a 16th week at No. 1, the smash matches Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men’s “One Sweet Day” for the longest command in the chart’s 59-year archives.

Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee‘s “Despacito,” featuring Justin Bieber, matches perhaps the most vaunted record for a song in the 59-year history of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, as it leads the list (dated Sept. 9) for a 16th week, the most weeks at No. 1 ever for a single. It equals the reign of Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men’s “One Sweet Day,” which spent 16 weeks at No. 1 in 1995-96.

Meanwhile, Ed Sheeran‘s “Shape of You” breaks the record for the most weeks spent in the Hot 100’s top 10, adding an unprecedented 33rd week in the top tier.

Plus, Yo Gotti soars to his first Hot 100 top 10, as “Rake It Up” rockets 24-10 following the release of its official video. Featured artist Nicki Minaj earns her 14th top 10, extending her record for the most among female rappers.

And, just beneath the Hot 100’s top 10, Bieber and BloodPop score the chart’s highest new entry, as “Friends” debuts at No. 20.

As we do each Monday, let’s run down the top 10 of the Hot 100, which blends all-genre streaming, airplay and sales data. All charts will update on Billboard.com tomorrow (Aug. 29), as they do every Tuesday.

As “Despacito” (released on Universal Music Latino / Raymond Braun / SchoolBoy / Def Jam / UMLE / Republic Records) moves into a first-place tie for the most weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100, dating to the chart’s Aug. 4, 1958, inception, here’s an updated look at the titles with the most time on top:

The Longest-Leading Billboard Hot 100 No. 1s
Weeks at No. 1, Title, Artist, Date Reached No. 1
16 (to date), “Despacito,” Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee feat. Justin Bieber, May 27, 2017
16, “One Sweet Day,” Mariah Carey & Boyz II Men, Dec. 2, 1995
14, “Uptown Funk!,” Mark Ronson feat. Bruno Mars, Jan. 17, 2015
14, “I Gotta Feeling,” The Black Eyed Peas, July 11, 2009
14, “We Belong Together,” Mariah Carey, June 4, 2005
14, “Candle in the Wind 1997″/”Something About the Way You Look Tonight,” Elton John, Oct. 11, 1997
14, “Macarena (Bayside Boys Mix),” Los Del Rio, Aug. 3, 1996
14, “I’ll Make Love to You,” Boyz II Men, Aug. 27, 1994
14, “I Will Always Love You,” Whitney Houston, Nov. 28, 1992

“One Sweet Day” held the record for the Hot 100’s longest rule for 21 and a half years, establishing the longevity mark when it tallied its 15th week on top on the March 9, 1996-dated chart (passing Boyz II Men’s own “I’ll Make Love to You” and Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You,” both 14-week leaders). “Sweet” added its final and, until this week unmatched, 16th week at No. 1 on March 16, 1996.

“Despacito” extends its record command on the Digital Song Sales chart to 17 weeks at No. 1, with 80,000 downloads sold (down 3 percent) in the week ending Aug. 24, according to Nielsen Music; both the original version and Bieber remix were sale-priced for 69 cents in the iTunes Store during the tracking week (with the former on sale for 69 cents in the prior week, as well). The single additionally leads the Streaming Songs chart for a record-extending 16th week, with 44.6 million U.S. streams (down 4 percent) in the week ending Aug. 24. On Radio Songs, “Despacito” holds at No. 5 after five prior weeks on top, drawing 105 million in all-format airplay audience (down 11 percent) in the week ending Aug. 27.

“Despacito” tallies a 30th week atop the Hot Latin Songs chart and extends its reign on the Songs of the Summer survey to 13 weeks, having led the latter list each week since its annual return after Memorial Day; the summer champion and entire top 20 will be revealed next week.

DJ Khaled‘s “Wild Thoughts,” featuring Rihanna and Bryson Tiller, ranks at its No. 2 Hot 100 peak for a seventh week, as it tops Radio Songs (137 million, up 1 percent) for a third week. The track holds at No. 4 on Streaming Songs (30.2 million, down 9 percent) and tumbles 2-7 on Digital Song Sales (38,000, down 46 percent, in its second week of 69-cent iTunes discounting). “Thoughts” rules Billboard’s Hot R&B Songs chart for an eighth week and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs for a seventh frame.

Cardi B‘s breakthrough hit “Bodak Yellow (Money Moves)” holds at its No. 3 Hot 100 high. It keeps at No. 2 on Streaming Songs (42 million, up 16 percent); reaches the Digital Song Sales top 10 (12-8; 36,000, up 25 percent); and bounds 28-20 on Radio Songs (50 million, up 21 percent). The track spends a second week at No. 1 on the Hot Rap Songs chart and takes over atop the all-genre audio subscription services-based On-Demand Streaming Songs chart (3-1; 16.9 million on-demand U.S. streams, up 15 percent).

Imagine Dragons‘ “Believer” returns to its No. 4 Hot 100 peak, from No. 5, while leading the Hot Rock Songs chart for a 25th week, and Charlie Puth‘s “Attention” also revisits its Hot 100 highpoint (6-5), while becoming his first No. 1 as a lead artist on the Pop Songs airplay chart.

French Montana‘s “Unforgettable,” featuring Swae Lee, drops 4-6 on the Hot 100 after reaching No. 3, while becoming each artist’s first top 10 on Radio Songs (11-10; 81 million, up 3 percent); Shawn Mendes‘ “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back” holds at No. 7 on the Hot 100, following its No. 6 peak, and becomes his third No. 1 on the Adult Pop Songs chart; and Bruno Mars‘ “That’s What I Like” keeps at No. 8 after topping the May 13-dated Hot 100.

As it holds at No. 9 on the Hot 100, Sheeran’s former 12-week No. 1 “Shape of You” breaks the record for the most weeks (33) spent in the top 10. Here’s an updated leader board:

Most Weeks in Billboard Hot 100’s Top 10
Weeks in Top 10, Title, Artist, Peak Pos./Date
33, “Shape of You,” Ed Sheeran, No. 1 (12 weeks), Jan. 28, 2017
32, “Closer,” The Chainsmokers feat. Halsey, No. 1 (12 weeks), Sept. 3, 2016
32, “How Do I Live,” LeAnn Rimes, No. 2, Dec. 13, 1997
31, “Uptown Funk!,” Mark Ronson feat. Bruno Mars, No. 1 (14 weeks), Jan. 17, 2015
30, “Smooth,” Santana feat. Rob Thomas, No. 1 (12 weeks), Oct. 23, 1999

Notably, “Shape” breaks the record by spending its first 33 weeks on the Hot 100 in the top 10; the song debuted atop the chart dated Jan. 28 and has yet to depart the region.

Closing out the Hot 100’s top 10, Yo Gotti’s “Rake It Up,” featuring Minaj, surges 24-10. After the arrival of its official video on Aug. 21, the track blasts 12-5 on Streaming Songs (28.1 million, up 45 percent, good for the Hot 100’s top streaming gain). It also jumps 42-26 on Digital Song Sales (17,000, up 24 percent), while lifting 35-33 on Radio Songs (36 million, up 10 percent). Yo Gotti earns his first Hot 100 top 10, after previously peaking at a No. 13 high with “Down in the DM,” also featuring Minaj, in March 2016. With her 14th Hot 100 top 10, Minaj extends her lead for the most among female rappers, pushing further past runner-up Missy Elliott, with nine.

Just beyond the Hot 100’s top 10, Bieber and BloodPop’s “Friends” arrives as the chart’s highest debut, at No. 20. Following its first full week of tracking (after its Aug. 17 midday release), it ranks at No. 5 on Digital Song Sales (39,000), No. 23 on Streaming Songs (13.3 million) and No. 41 on Radio Songs (32 million). While BloodPop, aka Michael Tucker, makes his first Hot 100 appearance as an artist (following seven prior entries as a writer, including Bieber’s 2016 No. 1 “Sorry”), Bieber charts his 69th entry, the ninth-best sum among male artists in the chart’s history; Drake leads all soloists (male or female) with 157.

Brand New Scores First No. 1 Album on Billboard 200 Chart With ‘Science Fiction’

The rock band leads the list with its first release in nearly eight years.

Rock band Brand New nabs its first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart as Science Fiction starts atop the tally with 58,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending Aug. 24, according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, 55,000 were in traditional album sales. The set was released Aug. 18 through the band’s own Procrastinate! Music Traitors label, and is the first album from the band in nearly eight years.

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new Sept. 9-dated chart (where Science Fiction debuts at No. 1) will be posted in full on Billboard’s websites on Tuesday (Aug. 29).

Science Fiction is currently only available through streaming services and for sale as a digital album. A physical release on CD and vinyl LP is due Oct. 18. (A number of other albums have topped the chart in 2017 without a physical album release, including Drake‘s More Life, Future‘s self-titled album and HNDRXX, Migos‘ Cultureand Big Sean‘s I Decided.)

Science Fiction is the third rock album to lead the Billboard 200 in 2017, following Arcade Fire‘s Everything Now (Aug. 19) and Linkin Park‘s One More Light (June 10).

Further, Science Fiction also debuts at No. 1 on the Independent Albums chart, as the set was self-released by the band. It is the first independently distributed album to top the Billboard 200 in 2017.

In 2016, five independently distributed albums led the chart: Metallica‘s Hardwired… To Self-Destruct (Dec. 10, 2016; released on the band’s Blackened Records, distributed via Alternative Distribution Alliance [ADA]), Jason Aldean‘s They Don’t Know (Oct. 1; on Broken Bow Records, distributed through RED Distribution), Frank Ocean‘s initially self-released Blonde (Sept. 10; on Ocean’s own Boys Don’t Cry), Blink-182‘s California (July 23; released through the band’s Viking Wizard Eyes LLC, licensed to BMG and distributed by ADA) and The Lumineers‘ Cleopatra (April 30; on Dualtone via ADA).

Brand New made its Billboard 200 debut in 2003 with Deja Entendu, which arrived on the list dated July 5 of that year, debuting and peaking at No. 63. The group returned in 2006 with The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me (No. 31) and then in 2009 with its previous studio set, Daisy (No. 6).

Brand New scores its first No. 1 a long 14 years, two months and four days after the act’s chart debut back on July 5, 2003. The last act to wait longer for its first No. 1 was David Bowie, when Blackstar debuted at No. 1 on Jan. 30, 2016 — 43 years, nine months and 15 days after he debuted on the list with Hunky Dory on April 15, 1972. Blackstar, of course, was released two days before Bowie died on January 10, 2016. Previous to Bowie, the last longer wait (than Brand New’s 14-year gap) was tallied by Tyrese, when his Black Rose bowed at No. 1 on the Aug. 1, 2015-dated list — 16 years, eight months and 18 days after his self-titled album hit the chart dated Nov. 14, 1998.

At No. 2 on the new Billboard 200, rapper Kodak Black scores his highest-charting album yet, and second top 10, as Project Baby Two launches with 50,000 units (8,000 in traditional album sales). The mixtape album is powered largely by streams, as the title garnered 39,000 SEA units, translating to 58.6 million on-demand audio streams of the album’s tracks. Kodak Black previously notched a No. 3-peaking set earlier in 2017 with his debut studio effort, Painting Pictures(71,000 units in its first week, 15,000 in album sales).

Kendrick Lamar‘s former No. 1 DAMN. moves 2-3 with 41,000 units (down 5 percent).

Rock band Neck Deep notches its first top 10 effort with The Peace and the Panicbowing at No. 4 with 32,000 units (mostly from traditional album sales, as the set sold 29,000 copies). The Welsh act previously reached No. 17 in 2015 with Life’s Not Out to Get You (19,000 units in its first week, with 18,000 in sales).

The Peace and the Panic was released through Hopeless Records, and the set is the highest charting effort for the label in more than two years. All Time Low‘s Future Hearts was the last Hopeless release to go higher, when it debuted and peaked at No. 2 on the April 25, 2015-dated list.

Kesha‘s Rainbow falls from No. 1 to No. 5 with 31,000 units (down 74 percent), Khalid‘s American Teen retreats two spots from its No. 4 peak, as it moves to No. 6 with 29,000 units (down 8 percent), and DJ Khaled‘s Grateful — which led the list for two weeks in July — falls 3-7 with 27,000 units (down 20 percent).

Also, this week’s top 10 is apparently brought to you by the letter “K”: Kodak Black is No. 2, Kendrick Lamar is No. 3, Kesha is No. 5, Khalid is No. 6 and DJ Khaled is No. 7.

In other artist chart news: Ed Sheeran‘s former leader ÷ (Divide) slips 6-8 with 26,000 units (down 7 percent).

Rapper Dave East scores his first top 10 effort, as Paranoia: A True Story, arrives at No. 9 with just under 26,000 units (12,000 in traditional album sales). East previously hit the chart with Kairi Chanel in 2016, which debuted and peaked at No. 38.

Closing out the top 10 is Imagine Dragons‘ Evolve, slipping one rung to No. 10 with 25,000 units (down 2 percent).

‘Despacito’ Ties for Second-Longest-Leading Hot 100 No. 1 of All Time & Cardi B Hits Top 10

With a 14th week at No. 1, Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee’s smash, featuring Justin Bieber, also matches “Macarena” for the longest-reigning predominantly non-English language No. 1. Plus, “Wild Thoughts” crowns Radio Songs & Cardi B hits the Hot 100’s top 10.

Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee‘s “Despacito,” featuring Justin Bieber, ties for the second-longest command in the 59-year history of the Billboard Hot 100, leading the list (dated Aug. 26) for a 14th week.

The track also equals the longest run at No. 1 for a primarily non-English language hit, tying the 14-week rule of Los Del Rio’s “Macarena (Bayside Boys Mix)” in 1996. “Despacito” additionally matches the mark for the longest stay atop the Streaming Songs chart: also 14 weeks.

Beyond “Despacito,” Hot 100 runner-up “Wild Thoughts” by DJ Khaled featuring Rihanna and Bryson Tiller takes over atop the Radio Songs chart and Bronx rapper and former cast member of VH1’s Love & Hip-Hop: New York Cardi Bbounds to the Hot 100’s top 10 with her debut hit, “Bodak Yellow (Money Moves).”

As we do each Monday, let’s run down the top 10 of the Hot 100, which blends all-genre streaming, airplay and sales data. All charts will update on Billboard.com tomorrow (Aug. 15), as they do every Tuesday.

“Despacito” (released on Universal Music Latino / Raymond Braun / SchoolBoy / Def Jam / UMLE / Republic Records) becomes one of an elite nine singles to have led the Hot 100 for at least 14 weeks, dating to the chart’s Aug. 4, 1958, inception. It logs the longest lead since Mark Ronson’s “Uptown Funk!,” featuring Bruno Mars, reigned for 14 weeks in 2015. Only Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men’s “One Sweet Day” has spent more time on top: 16 weeks in 1995-96.

The Longest-Leading Billboard Hot 100 No. 1s

Weeks at No. 1, Title, Artist, Date Reached No. 1

16, “One Sweet Day,” Mariah Carey & Boyz II Men, Dec. 2, 1995
14 (to date), “Despacito,” Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee feat. Justin Bieber, May 27, 2017
14, “Uptown Funk!,” Mark Ronson feat.

“Despacito” extends its record rule on the Digital Song Sales chart to 15 weeks at No. 1, with 82,000 downloads sold (down 3 percent) in the week ending Aug. 10, according to Nielsen Music.

More “Despacito” domination: the track tops the Streaming Songs chart for a record-tying 14th week, with 49.4 million U.S. streams (down 1 percent) in the week ending Aug. 10. It matches the 14-week reign of Desiigner’s “Panda” in 2016. On Radio Songs, however, “Despacito” drops to No. 2 after five weeks on top with 134.6 million in all-format airplay audience (down 4 percent) in the week ending Aug. 13.

“Despacito” tallies a 28th week atop the Hot Latin Songs chart and extends its reign on the Songs of the Summer survey to 11 weeks, having led the latter list each week since its annual return after Memorial Day.

“Wild Thoughts” keeps at its No. 2 Hot 100 peak for a fifth week while crowning Radio Songs (135.1 million, up 6 percent). Rihanna achieves her record-extending 13th Radio Songs No. 1, upping her lead over Carey (11), dating to the chart’s 1990 origin, while Khaled and Tiller each celebrate their first leader on the list. “Thoughts” also leads the Hot R&B Songs chart for a sixth week and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs for a fifth frame.

Does “Thoughts” have a realistic chance of dethroning “Despacito” atop the Hot 100 as soon as next week? The latter’s lead is still significant, perhaps likely priming it to become the second single ever to reign for at least 15 weeks. Both songs decline by 2 percent in overall activity this week, while the percentage gap between the two remains unchanged from last week: “Despacito” is again up by 1.46-to-1 in chart points over “Thoughts.” Still, “Despacito” is down in all metrics, while “Thoughts,” as noted above, gains in airplay.

French Montana‘s “Unforgettable,” featuring Swae Lee, is steady at its No. 3 Hot 100 high. It retreats 4-5 on Streaming Songs, but with a 5 percent gain to 29.1 million; pushes 8-6 on Digital Song Sales (39,000, up 8 percent); and keeps at No. 11 on Radio Songs (80 million, down 1 percent.) The single adds a second week at No. 1 on the Hot Rap Songs chart.

At Nos. 4, 5 and 6 on the Hot 100, three songs each hit new highs: Imagine Dragons‘ “Believer” rises 5-4, while ruling the Hot Rock Songs chart for a 23rd week. Charlie Puth scores his first top five Hot 100 hit as a lead artist, as “Attention” ascends 7-5. He spent 12 weeks at No. 1 in 2015 as featured on Wiz Khalifa‘s “See You Again” (which Puth co-wrote and co-produced). And, Shawn Mendes‘ “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back” bumps 8-6. As previously reported, “Back” becomes Mendes’ second No. 1 on the Pop Songs airplay chart.

Bruno Mars‘ “That’s What I Like” drops 4-7 after topping the May 13-dated Hot 100. It departs the top five after 24 weeks in the region, having become one of only five singles to spend at least that much time in the top five. Ed Sheeran‘s “Shape of You” and The Chainsmokers’ “Closer,” featuring Halsey, each lead with 27 total weeks in the top five, followed by “Uptown Funk!” and LeAnn Rimes’ “How Do I Live” (25 weeks each). Thus, thanks to “Funk” and “That’s What I Like,” Mars is the only artist with at least two songs to tally 24 or more weeks in the Hot 100’s top five.

Cardi B’s breakthrough hit “Bodak Yellow (Money Moves)” reaches the Hot 100’s top 10, zooming 14-8 and making her the first female rapper to reach the bracket with a debut entry on the chart since Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy,” featuring Charli XCX, reigned for seven weeks (and dominated Hot Rap Songs for 18 weeks) in 2014. “Yellow” is additionally the first rap top 10 by a female rapper unaccompanied by another artist since Nicki Minaj’s “Anaconda” slithered to No. 2 in 2014 (and ruled Hot Rap Songs for six weeks).

Meanwhile, “Yellow” makes the fastest flight to the Hot 100’s top 10 for a debut hit by a female soloist in a lead role since Meghan Trainor’s “All About That Bass,” which reached the region in four weeks in 2014 on its way to an eight-week run at No. 1.

Streaming accounts for nearly three-quarters of the Hot 100 points for “Yellow,” as it charges 6-2 on Streaming Songs (31.4 million, up 28 percent, good for the Hot 100’s top Streaming Gainer award for a second straight week). It also rises 20-15 on Digital Song Sales (23,000, up 8 percent) and roars onto Radio Songs at No. 36 (32 million, up 47 percent). On Hot Rap Songs, it hikes 5-2.

More color commentary: Cardi B’s hit is the ninth Hot 100 top 10 featuring the word “yellow” in its title. It’s the first since Wiz Khalifa’s two-toned “Black and Yellow” led in 2011. And, for the love of “money”: Thanks to the parenthetical “Money Moves” part of its title, the new top 10 is the 10th song to hit the bracket with the word “money” in its name, and first since Lil Wayne’s “Got Money,” featuring T-Pain, which paid a visit to No. 10 in 2008.

Sheeran’s “Shape” holds at No. 9 on the Hot 100, which it ruled for 12 weeks. The song spends its 31st week in the top 10 (encompassing its entire run, dating to its debut at No. 1 on the Jan. 28-dated chart) and moves to within a week of the record for the most weeks totaled in the top 10: “Closer” and “How Do I Live” each spent 32 weeks in the tier. (“Shape” ties “Uptown Funk!,” which tallied 31 top-10 weeks in 2014-15.)

Closing out the Hot 100’s top 10, DJ Khaled‘s “I’m the One,” featuring Bieber, Quavo, Chance the Rapper and Lil Wayne, falls 6-10, after leading the May 20-dated chart upon its debut.

Kendrick Lamar’s ‘DAMN.’ Returns to No. 1 on Billboard 200, Brett Eldredge Debuts at No. 2

Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN. returns to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, notching its fourth total week atop the tally. Meanwhile, Brett Eldredge scores the week’s top debut, as his new self-titled album bows at a career-high No. 2.

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new Aug. 26-dated chart (where DAMN. returns to No. 1) will be posted in full on Billboard’s websites on Tuesday, Aug. 15.

Lamar’s DAMN. climbs 2-1 on the latest Billboard 200, clocking a fourth nonconsecutive week at No. 1, and its first since the May 20-dated tally. The set earned just under 47,000 equivalent album units (down less than 1 percent) in the week ending Aug. 10, according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, 11,000 were in traditional album sales. The bulk of DAMN.’s figure comes from SEA units — 31,000. (The album is the week’s most-streamed title on the Billboard 200, with 46.2 million on-demand audio streams generated by its songs.)

DAMN.’s four weeks at No. 1 is the most by an album since The Weeknd’s Starboyclaimed its fifth nonconsecutive frame on the Feb. 11-dated chart.

DAMN. was last No. 1 on the May 20 chart. The album’s 13-week break from No. 1 is the longest gap between weeks at the top in more than four years. The last album to step away from No. 1 for a longer amount of time was Mumford & Sons’ Babel, which returned to No. 1 — after 17 weeks — on March 2, 2013. (Babel rebounded to No. 1 that week after the set won the Grammy Award for album of the year.)

Notably, DAMN.’s sum at No. 1 — a little under 47,000 units — is the second lowest weekly total for a No. 1 album since the chart began raking by consumption units in late 2014. The only time the No. 1 album clocked a smaller total was on the Aug. 22, 2015-dated list, when the Descendants soundtrack bowed at No. 1 with 42,000 units.

At No. 2 on the new Billboard 200 is Brett Eldredge’s self-titled album, which bows in the runner-up slot with 45,000 units (36,000 in traditional album sales). It’s the highest charting album yet for the country singer, surpassing the No. 3 peak of his Illinois album in 2015. In total, his new album is his fourth charting effort; he also visited the list with the 2016 Christmas album Glow (peaking at No. 29) and his debut album Bring You Back (No. 11 in 2013).

Brett Eldredge is the fourth country album to debut at No. 2 in 2017, following Zac Brown Band’s Welcome Home (June 3), Chris Stapleton’s From A Room: Volume 1(May 27) and Brantley Gilbert’s The Devil Don’t Sleep (Feb. 18). So far, however, no country albums have hit No. 1 in 2017 (all those No. 2-debuting sets peaked in the runner-up slot). The last country album to be No. 1 was Jason Aldean’s They Don’t Know, when it bowed at No. 1 on the Oct. 1, 2016 chart. (It spent one week at No. 1.)

With 36,000 copies sold, Eldredge’s new album is also the top selling album of the week, and debuts at No. 1 on the Top Album Sales chart.

DJ Khaled’s former No. 1 Grateful rises 4-3 (a little more than 31,000 units; down 8 percent) while Meek Mill’s Wins and Losses notches its third week in the top 10, falling 3-4 with 31,000 units (down 16 percent).

The Now 63 compilation album bows at No. 5 with 31,000 units (all from traditional album sales), bringing the long running Now series back to the top 10. Its previous set in the main, numbered series, Now 62, was its first to miss the top 10, as it debuted and peaked at No. 11 on the May 27-dated list (with a start of 35,000 units).

21 Savage’s Issa Album holds steady at No. 6 on the new Billboard 200 (a little more than 29,000 units; down 5 percent), while Ed Sheeran’s former No. 1 ÷ (Divide) rises 8-7 (29,000 units; down 4 percent).

Imagine Dragons’ Evolve moves 7-8 with 28,000 units (down 9 percent) while SZA’s Ctrl returns to the top 10, climbing 13-9 with 27,000 units (up 5 percent). The latter album is driven by its streams, as SEA units comprise 22,000 of its total for the week (up 8 percent). The album’s return to the top 10 (its first week in the region since its debut at No. 3 on July 1) comes one week after SZA earned her first top 40-charting hit on the Billboard Hot 100 with the album’s “Love Galore,” featuring Travis Scott.

Rounding out the new top 10 on the Billboard 200 is Khalid’s American Teen, which also comes back to the top 10, stepping 11-10 (27,000 units; up 1 percent). Like Ctrl, Khalid’s album is powered by SEA units (22,000; up 6 percent) thanks to the continued popularity of the set’s songs like “Location.”
